Report of the Trustees of the Folkestone Rotary Club Samaritans Account

There are just 3 things I want to say, as I present these accounts for your approval:

  1. With £35k in our charity account and £17k in our Club account, we are clearly in a healthy position. And I want to pay tribute to my predecessor Don Falvey, who for the eight years between July 2013 and June 2021 kept watch over the state of health of our finances.

  2. I want to honour the contribution that all the members of the Club made to the impressive list of charitable contributions that we were able to make during 2020-21. During a year when we could not hold a single meeting face-to-face as a Club, the nearly £40k raised and nearly £60k given to charity does us all great credit.

  3. Finally, in the long run, we can only give away what we raise, which has typically been £15k to £20k per annum. Rotarian Dave Taylor, his core team and a lot of members are putting in enormous efforts to make this Christmas a success in terms of both spreading Christmas cheer and raising money. But alongside membership, I see one of the biggest challenges we face is to dream up innovative and practical ways of raising cash. Something for us all to think about.

And with those three comments, I commend to the Club our accounts for the past financial year.

T. Cooke-Davies
