The charity is established and controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust. The trustee is a limited company, limited by guarantee, as defined by the Companies Act 2006.

Recruitment of Management Company

The trustees decided that due to the low number of directors and that all current directors have full time employment, we would take on a management company to take over the day to day running of the charity’s maintenance and Secretarial duties of the Company.

Recruitment and appointment of possible new directors

The number of trustee’s has declined over the last year so we are currently looking to appoint new Directors, individuals who share the aims of the charity and who, will be attending trustee meetings as observers, once they are happy and have decided to serve as directors of the trust. The current directors will check references, carry out an interview and if they are found to be suitable to be appointed as directors we will look appoint them as soon as possible.

Induction and training of new trustees

The Almshouse Association holds a number of seminars each year which are made available to all Directors of the Trust to attend. New Directors in particular are encouraged to attend the annual seminar for new trustees. The Trust does not have a bespoke training course for new Trustees, but they quickly become informed of the issues by means of discussion at Trustees meetings and between meetings by email and personal contact.

The Trustee’s plans for the forthcoming period

The Trust continues the updating of the Rules of Reference, Application Form and Letter of Offer. The Trustee notes the tendency for elderly people to remain independent for longer, and as a result over a number of years the waiting list has become gradually shorter. The Trustee is fully aware of this and is actively considering its implications.

The trustee’s had appointed a surveyor to carry out inspection, and a fire risk assessor to report on any work needed to maintain the high standards of the property and safety of the tenants. The outcome of these have been taken on by the new Management Company SWR, who are currently in the process of fulfilling the requirements of these reports. The trustees are continuing to improve flats to a high standard to meet our tenants requirements.

Financial Risk Management

The Trustee acknowledges its duty to identify and review the financial risk to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error. The Trustee has to this end agreed Financial Procedures which are operated by the Treasurer on behalf of the trust.

Dear Kelvin

- Bethany Home Charity Charity accounts for the Year Ended 30 April 2024 - Bethany Home Trustee Limited Accounts for the Year Ended 30 April 2024

Further to our recent correspondence, we are pleased to advise that we have now completed the accounts of Bethany Home Charity for the above year, which have now been signed and approved by the Board of Trustees. We enclose copies of the above-mentioned signed accounts for your records.

We assume that, as usual, you will arrange for the filing of the accounts with the Charity Commission in due course.

Other Matters

In previous years the Housing Corporation have asked us to produce a letter for the purposes of drawing attention to the matters which arise during the course of preparing the charity’s accounts. Taking into account the size of the charity and the number of personnel involved, it is our view that there are no material matters which would be required to be highlighted in any such letter. It is our view that the charity is very well managed. In order to comply with the requirements of the Housing Corporation, a copy of this letter may be attached to the accounts when submitted.

Finally, we take this opportunity of enclosing a note of our costs in connection with the preparation and review of the enclosed accounts for your kind attention in due course.
