The flnancial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out In note5 to the accounts pages 7 to 9 and comply wlth the charity's governing document, the Charltle5 Act 2011 and Accounting and Reportlng by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice applStable to charitles preparing their accounts In accordance with the Flnanclal Reportlng Standard applltèble In the UK and Republic of Ireland publlshed in October 2019. ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Charltable a¢tlvltles During the year the Trustees contlnued to be concerned for the welfare of residents and malntenallce of the almshouses. The Trustees were pleased that 311 Tesidents were happy in their home5 and that the properties were being kept at a hlgh standard of maintenance. There were two propertles that had not been refurblshed In recent years but their elderly occupants precluded this type of work belhg undert3ken. There had been no changes In resldent 50 no major refurbishments were undertaken. The year wa5 one in whSch Trustees took stock and consldered future plans for the almshouses. Trustees continued to look for posslble development land on whlch to bulld more almshouses in the Hutton area. FINANCIAL REVIEW Flnanclal posltlo The Charlty's financial p051tlon Is as set out In the Balance Sheet on page 6 and Is consldered satisfactory. Reserves pollcy The Charlty's policy on resèrves Is to maintain sufficient reserves to enable the Charlly to continue to achieve Its princlpal oblettlves.

They contlnue to explore the possibllity of providing more almshouse5 and are looking to future energy efficiency and gas boiler replacement option5. They contlnue to invest in malntenance fund5 to ensure a hiEh quallty of living conditlons at all the almshouses. STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governlng document Rev. William Berman founded the Charity in the year 1700 and It was established by an Order of the Charlty Commissioners dated 2nd May 1871 and 15 regulated by a Scheme of the sarne date. It Wa5 further approved and constltuted by a Scheme dated 30th October 1953 and variatSon5 dated Ilth May 1989 and 2nd April 1997 and an order dated 1st June 2007. Recrultment and appolntment of new trustee5 The Trustee5 continue to be mindful of the need to malntaln a strong Trust body by making timely appolntment5 when vacancles occur. As vacancies for Trustee5 arise applications are sought from potential tandidates known to the Trustees and other suitable local people. Applicants are then considered by the Trustees and appointments made by re501ytion of the Trustees. OrganlsatSonal strurture The Clerk to the Charity carries out the day to day running of the Charity under the guidance and 5upervi5ion of the Trustees, who normally meet four times during each year and more frequently when there 15 business to be transacted. Inductlon and tralnlng of new trustees New Trustees are briefed by the Clerk and the existing Trustees on the hlstory and actlvitle5 of the Charlty. They are provided with a copy of the Charity Commission publlcatiofj 'The Essential Trustee dÈtaS1ing their responsibllltle5 and providing guSdance on belng a Trustee. New TrustÈe5 are provided with a copy of the Charity Scheme and the latest accounts, Related partles There are no other charitie5 related to the Wllllam BÈiman's Trust. The accounts have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practlee ISORPI appllcable to charltles preparlng their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reportlng Standard applicable in the UK and Republlc of Ireland Issued In October 2019, the Financlal Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021, the Charlties Act 2011, and UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practice. The financlal statements have been prepaied under the historical cost conventlon, wlth the exception of investments which are included at market value, as modified by the revaluatbon of certain assets. For the purposes of pre5entatitsn the flnanclal statements are rounded to the nearest pound sterling 1£) and are inclusive of Value Added Tax. Fund Accounting Unrestricted funds can be used in accordanee with the charltable oblettives at the discretlon of the trustees. Deslgnated funds are unrestricted fund5 of the charlty which the trustees have declded at thelr dlscretlon to set aside to use for a specific purpose. Support Costs The Charlty's governance costs are allocated entSrely to the Almshouse Costs since support costs relatlng to other actlvltles are consldered Immaterlal. Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commltment but not accrued as expendlture. Tangible fixed assets The cost of refurbi5hmenl and improvements to the existing freehold property are written oll to the Income Account as incurred. Any malor Smprovements to the existlng freehold property or new building works are eapltalised. The freehold property is depreciated using the straight line method at a rate calculated to write Dff the as5et5 over thelr estimated useful life which is consldered to be 100 years. Investments Investments are shown on the Balance Sheet at their market value. Changes in market values during an accounting period are reflected in the accounts as unrealised gains or losses. A transfer to the Fund is made from the Income Account of a Specific amount as agreed by the Trustees. C3pltal Account The Capital Account Is Perrnanent Endowment of the Charity. The Fund is partly represented by the Charity's equlty in land and buildings with the balance belne speclflcally invested. Income from these investments is avallable for the general purposes of the Charity. The Charlty Commlsslon accepted the Trustees resolutlon, dated 10 Aprll 2019, to cancel the annual recoupments so that these funds can be utilised on the Charlty'5 beneflciaries. 14.
