The Rotary Club of Kendal Charitable Trust is constituted by Deed of Trust dated 16 December 1963 and is a registered charity, No. 233184. Its address is c/o the current Treasurer, 12 Longmeadow Lane, Natland, Kendal, Cumbria LA9 7QZ. The Charity Trustees during the year to June 30[th] 2021 were:

At the meeting for the inauguration of the President of the Rotary club of Kendal held on July 6[th] 2020, President Peter W D Smith retired from office and was succeeded by Rotarian Philip V Hoyle as President of the Club and Chairman of the Trust. Rotarian Alan Fleming was appointed President Elect of the Club and Vice Chairman of the Trust. Past President Peter A Smith was appointed as Secretary and Trustee. Past President Richard Bird was reappointed as Treasurer and Trustee. Trustees are appointed annually by the members of the Rotary club of Kendal at their Annual General Meeting, in accordance with the Trust Deed. They are the President, President Elect, Secretary and Treasurer, who serve with effect from July 1[st] annually.

The objects of the Charity are to provide funds for the relief of poverty and distress to individuals or organisations approved by the Council of the Rotary club of Kendal, and to provide funds for the advancement of education.

During the year ended 30[th] June 2021, donations were made to groups, organisations and individuals as listed in the accounts. Of the £14,559.32 donations made and expenses incurred by the Charitable Trust, £965.32 related to the cost of fundraising, leaving a total of £13,594.00 donated to charitable causes. Included in these donations was £1,100.00 (2020: £1810.00) to the Rotary Foundation. In addition, £1,000.00 (2020: £450.00) was donated to Rotary’s Polio Eradication campaign.

Cash reserves totalled £35,951.98 (2020: £17,416.58). This includes allocated, but not distributed funds of £31,814.82 (2020: £10,165). Significant allocated funds are £10,284.14 reserved for the Nepal project, and £19,426.34 allocated to future costs and reserve funds for the Bowness Blues event. The major donations were achieved through the fundraising efforts of the members of Kendal Rotary, and from collections. The club lottery produced a surplus of £1,313.00 (2020: 1,721.00).

There are no administrative expenses for the Charity.

Reserves policy. With no administrative expenses, it is considered necessary for the Trust only to hold reserves for future Bowness Bay Blues events. The reserve sum currently considered to be appropriate is £18,000.

Major risks. At the present time, there are no major risks which need to be considered or mentioned.
