viewed by the meeting. Accounts proposed by MB and seconded

MB commented on the need to review projections in the coming
months- probably June. He also highlighted that the three sets of
invoices since the merger had not been as laborious a task as
expected.

The main issue discussed by the meeting was the ongoing need
for volunteers and for a higher profle.
Election

member appointments. CL created an online ballot and all
members were duly elected to serve for the coming year.
Gini Rvers has stepped down from her Trustee role but remains a
loyal supporter and may return to the role in the future.
Ofcer roles will be balloted for at Branch meeting in May.

Concern was raised about the dwindling number of inspectors.
Although there are more Animal Rescuer Ofcers, it is difcult to
know the difference in remit. DH noted that the job description
can be found online.
This issue is being taken up with the National RSPCA as all
Branch Chairs are concerned.

Branch 2025 Annual Report

The Trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the years ending 31 December 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities' issued in March 2005.

Structure, Governance and Management

The RSPCA Aberconwy Branch is an unincorporated charitable association and a separately registered branch of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (the Society), carrying out its direct animal welfare work throughout its territory from Llanfairfechan in the West and Wrexham in the East, and Conwy in the North and Llandrindod Wells in the South.

The charity is controlled by its governing document and constitutes an unincorporated charity. The Trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

Objectives and Activities

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Aberconwy Branch is run to help prevent cruelty and to aid sick and injured animals within its local area. As part of the Wales Board, we also support financial initiatives within Wales in consultation with the Branch Committee.

The Trustees have reviewed the outcomes and achievements of our objectives and activities for the year, to ensure they remain focused on our charitable aims, and continue to deliver benefits to the public. We have complied with the duty under the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission.

Achievements and Performance

Welcome to our Annual General Meeting! Outlined below are the Branch’s main achievements over the year.

2025 has been a busy year for the branch with exciting changes across all of our services. Covered below are the highlights of what we hope will be the start of an exciting period of growth and development for both the branch and increased support for animals in our branch area and beyond.

Our Charity Shops

2025 was the first year we have run three charity shops simultaneously! This has created a huge workload for Dawn our Retail Manager, our amazing volunteer Team and later on in the year, Kay, our Retail Assistant. A huge thanks to the whole shop team that kept our shops open and looking so inviting!

Our original shop in Craig y Don continues to generate much needed income for us and remains our primary hub for donations. Craig y Don has long been a favourite amongst our supporters, so we hope our new shops will similarly develop local community support and serve as an important customer facing ‘shop

window’ to what the branch does to help local animals in need.

In an effort to maximise our income generating potential, we ran our Gift Aid scheme in both our Mostyn Street and Rhos on Sea shops to help us generate an extra 25% of income from the donations we sell. In 2026, we’ll be launching this scheme in our Craig y Don shop too to ensure that each shop stands to benefit from this added income potential. Many thanks to Dawn, Mike and Carl for developing this essential process and a huge thanks to the volunteer teams that have managed to incorporate this extra task into their already busy daily shop activities!

Looking ahead, our key challenge remains attracting more volunteers to help us keep all of our shops open for as many days as possible. Towards that end, we have been actively promoting our volunteer vacancies to encourage our local communities to be part of our efforts to help local animals. Our Trustees have also been covering a number of slots in

our shops to help as well as providing an opportunity to speak to members of the public about our work.

Branch Expansion

We’re also excited to report that since our two branches have merged, a lot of work has been taking place to sustain and increase the exceptional work of the Trustee team from the former Montgomeryshire & Radnor branch. Over the past few years, we had collectively concluded that our ability to meet the growing demand for our services could best be achieved by working as one merged branch and we are grateful to have many of those former Trustees helping to shape the future of RSPCA Aberconwy, Montgomeryshire & Wrexham Branch.

The former Montgomeryshire & Radnorshire Trustees have a wealth of welfare experience combined with their very successful farm dog and cat neutering schemes, so we’re excited to be working with them and what the future might bring.

A special thanks to all Trustees who have been part of the effort to develop and sustain our services across this newly formed and much larger territory. The combination of diverse areas of experience and expertise has been an exciting learning curve for all of us!

Our Clinical Services

The majority of our income generation helps to sustain the increasing cost of veterinary support we provide animals through our clinics as well as the welfare and neutering vouchers we issue to help pet owners secure treatment for their animals.

Llandudno Junction Welfare Clinic

Our Clinic in Broad Street in Llandudno Junction is working well and has for the most

part been open 3 days a week for the year. Prior to Covid we were able to open almost everyday of the week but the pandemic significantly impacted our capacity to do this safely.

Like our shop volunteer teams, our Clinic Volunteers are absolutely essential to this service, managing clients, assisting the vet and generally keeping the service running smoothly and creating a caring atmosphere to support people and their pets, so a huge note of thanks to them! The more days we can open, the more animals we can support, so please feel free to share our clinic details

with anyone who may benefit from the service.

Our plan has always been to maximise the potential of our clinical services and the opening of our additional two shops will help us to generate funding to make this possible. One key element of this is developing the capacity to offer routine surgery such as neutering, rather than refer clients to private practice. To that end we are seeking grant funding to help us procure the necessary equipment which we hope will be realised in 2026. In doing so, we hope to be able to offer a complete in-house service to animal owners in 2026.

North Wales Branches Mobile Clinic

Our Branch has been operating the North Wales Branches Mobile Clinic for almost a decade now. As a Branch we fund 3 venues the service visits (Llandudno, Wrexham and Queensferry) with the remaining 5 venues spread across the territories of RSPCA West Gwynedd and Ynys Mon Branches. The mobile clinic is an incredibly versatile service that allows us to reach places where demand is greatest or barriers

to support are highest, as well as avoiding the need for long distance travel to clinics for the animals. As a result, the service can be incredibly complex to deliver at times! Thankfully, we have an amazing team of volunteers who help deliver the service and drive the van to each of the 8 venues every week as well as fantastic vets and a small but essential and talented support team that help keep the wheels turning!

In 2026, we hope to further refine and develop the service to reach those animal owners most in need, including new venues and working with RSPCA West Gwynedd and RSPCA Ynys Mon Branches to ensure it supports their efforts to support local animals in their own territories.

North Wales Almoner

Importantly, 2025 was the first full year that the North Wales Almoner fully managed the distribution of welfare and neutering vouchers across North Wales. This significant change seeks to ensure that our welfare and neutering vouchers are issued consistently across the whole region. Kelly Dilworth, our long time Clinic Supervisor, embraced the role in December 2024 and has brought to bear her significant clinical background and years of welfare experience to create a consistent and sustainable service providing support to clients as well as working with almost every vet across our region. We now have a welfare voucher system that works consistently across the majority of North Wales from Anglesey and Gwynedd in the West, Wrexham in the East and nearly all of Mid Wales! Special thanks must go to Kelly and the various Trustees in RSPCA Ynys Mon Branch, West Gwynedd Branch, Aberconwy Branch and Montgomeryshire & Radnor Branch that make this collaboration possible.

PPP (Paws, People Planet - Pawennau, Pobl, Planed) Food Bank scheme

The PPP scheme continues to grow, now serving over 80 food banks across Wales and to date distributing millions of servings of food to struggling pet owners accessing food banks. This service has been essential to help avoid the devastating impact of pet owners having to relinquish their pets due to the cost of living but also helping us to reach new communities that could benefit from our services.

Our Future Plans

As always, the Trustees continue to look towards the future and consider how the Branch can further extend its reach, increase its capacity and ensure the long-term sustainability of its services.

Every welfare service comes at a cost, and as a Branch we must carefully balance our ambitions with sustainable fundraising plans. Ultimately, we see the creation of our own animal welfare centre or hub as central to this vision. While this ambition remains some years away, it would significantly increase our ability to support animals across the region, whatever their needs may be.

In the meantime, we will continue developing our expertise, expanding our partnerships and helping as many animals as possible.

Project work is also underway in a number of key areas, including wildlife provision, cat neutering, support for those on low incomes during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, education and community engagement. While these initiatives take time to develop, they have the potential to significantly increase welfare provision and community involvement throughout our region.

It’s impossible to thank everyone individually for the amazing contribution they have made to animal’s lives everywhere in our Branch territory. Nonetheless, we would like to thank everyone who has donated, baked, knitted, staffed stalls, organised tombolas, hosted raffles or volunteered in our shops and clinics. Without the dedication of our volunteers, the commitment of our hardworking staff and the generosity of our supporters, we could never help the more than 4,000 animals we support each year.

Finally, a special thank you to our Trustees, who freely give their time, experience and expertise to guide the Branch’s strategy and strengthen its capacity to help local animals for many years to come.

Reserves policy

The Branch holds reserves in order that the service level provided for animal welfare is maintained should there be a reduction in incoming resources. Reserves are those funds that are freely available for general purposes and are uncommitted.

RSPCA- ABERCONWY BRANCH NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2025 Accounting policies 1.1 Basis of preparation of accounts The financial statements are prepared under the historical cost convention with the Statement of Recommended Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102). 1.2 Tangible fixed assets for use by the branch and depreciation Tangible fixed assets for use by the branch are stated at cost less depreciation. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation of fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases: Shop & clinic fixtures and fittings Van 20 % reducing balance method 25 % reducing balance method Depreciation is not provided on the freehold property, mobile clinic or the property improvements as in the opinion of the branch committee the present value of the buildings and mobile is not less than shown in the accounts. 1.3 Investments Investments are stated at market value at the Balance Sheet date. The statement of financial activities includes the net gains and losses arising on revaluation and disposal throughout the year. 1.4 Income Voluntary income and donations are accounted for as received by the branch. 1.5 VAT Value Added Tax is recoverable by the branch on its clinic and shop operations and is reflected in the relevant income and costs in the statement of financial activities. 1.6 Fund raising costs Fund raising expenditure comprises costs incurred in inviting people and organisations to contribute financially to the branches work. This includes the cost of advertising for donations and the staging of special fund-raising events.

Respective responsibilities of the Committee and Examiners As Committee Members you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts; you consider that the audit requirement of section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act) does not apply, and that an independent examination is needed. It is our responsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act as amended and to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, whether particular matters have come to our attention. Basis of Independent Examiners, report Our examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners.
