Strnetllre GovernaD¢e #nd M4n ement Governin document The organisation is a charitsble CA)mpany limited by guarantee. in¢orporated on 7 December 1984 and regislered with the Charity Commission as a regisiered charity on 30 November 1962. The company w&$ established under"a Memorandum of Association, which established the objects and power5 of the charitable company and is governed under its Articles of Association. Recruitm intment of Council Members The current ¢ouncil members are as detailed on page l. In arxordance with the rules of the siety. a third of the McmirS of Council retire each year by rotation and can offer themselves for re-election at the Annual General Meeting. The Chairnian and Vice Chaim]an are eligible for relection at the first CouD¢iI Meeting following the Annual General Meeting. Council Induction and Trainln Any n¢w council members arc given detsils of the rule5 and obj¢¢tives of the Charity. Further training is provided on rcqu¢5t from the Chainnan of the Charity. The Council Members have assessed any significant risks that the Charity may be exposed to and have taken measures to ensure any p)tential risks are minimised. An Independent Security firm handles all the transa¢lions on the Show day, and the council members on5id¢r that this reduces th¢ risk anisation Structure The Council of the Society is re5FK)nsible for the overall management and control of the charity and Tegular meetings are held. The Council is also grntefvl to the many volunteers who give their time to the Society. In total this represents many hours of work which cannot possibly be valued. but without whi¢h the Derbyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Society would not be as successful. The Council believes that it is well placed to fulfil thc objcctivcs of the charity into the future. Page 3
DerbyshiT¢ Agri¢ulturxl and Horticultsral Society Limited Ob ectives and Activities The tharity is established for the promotion of agriculture, horticulture and rnral traditions through the staging of the annual Derbyshire County Show. The Show is aimed at any and all membcrs of the public. It is widely advertised in the City of Derby as well as the surrounding districts and neighbouring wuntiC5 and the Show attracts several ihousand visitors who can scc many facets of nwal heritage displayed. including animals, trades and skills. The many exhibitors at the Show bcncfit from the chance to showcase their livestocl skill or war¢s to a wider audience than they may be able to acc¢ss individually: whil¢ members of the public visiting the Show arc able to benefit by the gathcriDg of many diffcrent goods, produce, livestocL attractions and entertainment on one day at a family friendly ev¢nt. The Show open5 to the public at 8am and closes at 5.30pm. There is a range of cattle. sheep. horse. dog. rabbAL bird. horticultural and Young Farmers, com1t10nS held throughout the day and many of the compelltions are qualifying rounds for national competitions such as Crufts and the Hoe of the Year Show. Along with this theff are many displays of vinlage machinery, cars and tractors, Women's Institute. hedge cutting and dry-stone walling. There are ¢l&ssic Tides for ¢hildren including a helter- sk¢lter and carousel. Refreshm¢nts are available from a variety of producers. There is as well a main ring with a 11 programme of displays and entertainmenL which has included JCB Dancing Diggers, Monster TTu¢k displays and The Yorkshire Volunteers Marching Band, and every year we also have a Grand Parade of the prizewinning animals in the aftemoon. The Derbyshire Agricultural and Horticultural Society operate as an independt charity. Achievement and Perforniance The.2022 show was a great success. the people of Derby, Derbyshire and the surrounding counties came in good number and the showground w85 full of sheep and cattle. horses. dogs and a whole variety or other exhibits and trade stands for them to enjoy. A new traffic mana8ement systrm ensured th¢ flow of cars. vans and livestock tran5POrtcrs moved off the road and into the ¢ar parks smoothly and they also handled the public coming through the gates. Th¢ new onlin¢ ticketlng system worked a trcaL and for the first time pre show tickets out-sold on the day sales by three to one. We aim to build on this system of allowing pre show online entries across the board and while we will of course continue to take postal application5 to give everyon¢ a Chan to enter, moving on it should be a great way of saving time. paper and postage. We remain mindful to keep a tight rein on th¢ budget to sustain the future of the show as many other shows lik¢ ours have fallen by th¢ wayside. It remains the aim of the wciety to continue to hold the Derbyshire County Show and ty to build up our nds to put th¢ s(Kiety back OD a strong fuwicial footing to Sustain its futu. Page 4
