Annual Report for Bottisham United Charities for the year ended 31 December 2021
Bottisham United Charities (Clerk’s address: 57 Lode Road, Lode, Cambridge, CB25 9ET) is registered with the Charity Commission (Charity No 203215) and regulated by the Schemes of the Charity Commissioners dated 2 December 1913 and 30 April 1990.
The Charity is administered by Trustees representing the five parishes covered by the Bottisham United Charities. For the year 1 January to 31 December 2021 the Trustees were:
Chairman: Mr G Sanderson
Vice-Chairman: Mr R Watts Other Trustees: Mrs M Coles; Mr R Jenyns; Mr R Jakes; Rev Sue Giles; Mr R May; Revd Peter Gill; Mr G Robinson; Ms J Kitt; Mr M Gingell and Mr M Sale.
Clerk: Ms L Stringer
The Trustees are made up of Ex-Officio Trustees, incumbents of the present benefices of Bottisham, Lode, Stow-cum-Quy, Horningsea and Exning and the Owner of Bottisham Hall; together with Estate Trustees. A change was made to the governing document in November 2014 that the Trustees representing Exning be appointed by Exning Parish Council rather than Forest Heath District Council; the reason for this was to bring the appointment of Trustees for Exning in line with the other villages (until recently Exning did not have a parish council).
Bottisham United Charities acts as a ‘holding company’ collecting rents from tenant farmers and dividends from investments which it then distributes to: Bottisham Local Charity, Lode Local Charity, Stow-cum-Quy Local Charity, Horningsea Parish Charity and Exning United Charities for their distribution as indicated in the “Relief in Need” note contained in the 1990 Scheme.
The Trustees were not able to hold their Annual General Meeting in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but managed to do so in August once restrictions were lifted. This meant that the distribution of monies to the village charities which normally takes place at the June meeting did not happen until August, but the November distribution took place as usual. The 2021 the Charities income was £48,405, and £44,682 was distributed to the five charities.
Payments were made to the Clerk (£2,000), and £220 for an independent examination of the 2021 accounts.
