Objects: The Object Of The CIO Is: To Advance The Protection And Improvement Of The Physical And Natural Environment For The Benefit Of The Public By:(a) Developing The Capacity And Skills Of Coastal Communities To Effectively Manage Protected Areas, Particularly But Not Exclusively Coastal And Marine Protected Areas; And(b) Developing Sustainable Finance And Governance Mechanisms With Stakeholders To Support Community Management Of These Protected Areas.in Furtherance Of The Above,the Protected Areas Foundation Will Focus On Areas That Are Already Formally Designated As Protected Areas, Through Extensive National Evidence, For Conservation By Statutory Bodies. These Include, But Are Not Limited To: Marine Protected Areas (Mpas), Sites/areas Of Special Scientific Interest (Sssis/assis), Special Areas Of Conservation (Sacs), Special Protection Areas (Spas) And Ramsar Sites.in This Clause: Protected Area Refers To A Clearly Defined Geographical Space, Recognised, Dedicated, And Managed, Through Legal Or Other Effective Means, To Achieve The Long-Term Conservation Of Nature With Associated Ecosystem Services And Cultural Values (Dudley, 2008).Equivalently, A Geographically Defined Area Which Is Designated Or Regulated And Managed To Achieve Specific Conservation Objectives (Article 2 Of The 1992 Convention On Biological Diversity Cited In Cbd, 2011).Effectively Manage Refers To An Assessment Of The Degree To Which A Given Area Or Network/system Is Delivering On Its Stated Outcomes (Or Goals And Objectives). In Practice And In The Shorter Term, This Assessment Can Be Made Against Standard Components And Criteria In A Good Effectiveness Framework.components Of Protected Area Effectiveness Include Good Governance, Sound Design And Planning, And Adaptive Strategy Implementation, Which Lead To Achievement Of Desired Outcomes (Iucn, 2018; Wcpa, 2023).Management Is Distinct From Governance. Management Is About What Is Done To Achieve The Goals And Includes Defining And Allocating Lower Level Objectives, Responsibilities, And Accountabilities.capacity Refers To A Measure Of A Protected Area’s Ability To Fulfil Its Mission And Goals In Terms Of The Status Of Available Resources (Physical, Human, Financial And Information).governance Mechanism Refers To The Individuals, Groups, And Institutions Ultimately Responsible For Decision-Making For An Area Or Network Of Areas. Governance Can Also Include The Process Of How Decisions Are Influenced And Made (Adapted From Franks Et Al. 2018 And Springer Et Al. 2021).Iucn Currently Recognizes Four Types Of Governance: Private, Government, Indigenous Peoples Or Local Communities, And Shared.
