THE ROYAL VICTORIA TRUST FOR THE BLIND (CIO)

TRUSTEE’S ANNUAL REPORT (Continued)

YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025

The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the CIO for the year ended 31 March 2025.

Structure, governance and management

The Royal Victoria Trust for the Blind is a registered CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales since 9[th] September 2024 (charity number 1210115).

Objectives and activities

The objective of the Trust is the welfare of blind and visually impaired people in the counties of Northumberland, Cumbria, Tyne and Wear, Durham, Cleveland and North Yorkshire.

Appointment of trustees

Trustees are recruited where possible from former staff and pupils of the Royal Victoria School, local support organisations and the wider visual impaired community in the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria.

Public benefit statement

The Trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit as published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.

Chair’s Report

This CIO was formally registered by the Charity Commission on 19[th] September 2024 and was set up to replace the unincorporated charity, The Royal Victoria Trust for the Blind (charity number 528072). During this financial year, the unincorporated charity continued to operate as normal.

Trustees worked closely with the Muckle LLP commercial law firm during the financial year to set up and register the CIO with the Charity Commission. This work took many months and is documented in detail in the meeting minutes of the unincorporated charity number 528072, and referred to in its annual report for the year ending 31 March 2025. These and its accounts can be found on the Charity Commission website.

The CIO needed to be set up in advance so that the assets and liabilities of the unincorporated charity could be transferred to it at the appropriate time. As part of that work, our Treasurer needed to set up a new bank account for the CIO, which he did in December 2024. The £100 transfer in December 2024 from the unincorporated charity to the CIO was the only transaction affecting the CIO during this financial year.

As of the end of the current financial year, we are still waiting for the outcome of an S105 Order from the Charity Commission before we can transfer the assets and liabilities from the unincorporated charity to the CIO. We hope that this will take place within the first half of the next financial year, after which the CIO will take over operations from the unincorporated charity number 528072, which can then be dissolved.
