For the public benefit, to advance the education of the public in and to promote their appreciation of the art and science of music in Berwick and the surrounding area by the presentation of public concerts and music recitals.

Provision of public concerts of music in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Artists were a mix of those of national recognition and amateur performers drawn from the community.

The trustees have had regard for the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit, both in setting out the charitable objects in the charity’s constitution, and in the conduct of the charity’s activities throughout the period. The concerts presented by the charity have all been public events, for the public benefit, and care has been taken to make them accessible to all, both financially and in choice of accessible venues.

Section D Achievements and performance

Provision of five public concerts of music in Berwick-upon-Tweed. Artists Summary of the main were a mix of those of national recognition and amateur performers achievements of the charity drawn from the community. during the year The concerts were all well attended, and feedback collected after each concert indicated a high degree of satisfaction.

Audience members were able to hear and participate in music from a wide variety of genres, including historic and contemporary classical music as well as folk and jazz music. Local performers and composers benefitted by playing in public and having their music performed and heard in a public forum. Importantly, the charity was able to build up sufficient reserves and public interest so that the future for concerts in the area is secured. Section E Financial review The Trustees aim to build up and retain a working balance of Unrestricted Brief statement of the Funds in the region of £4,000 to £6,000. Berwick Music Society was registered as a CIO on 16 July 2024 and the first transactions through its bank account were in August 2024.

The trustees decided on 30 June as the end of the charity’s financial year, so this report covers the period from 16 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 and includes the first season of concerts (2024/25) presented by the charity.

Although the charity’s income in the period was below £25,000, the trustees decided to submit the accounts for review by a suitably qualified Independent Examiner.

Unrestricted funds are available for general purposes in accordance with the Charity's purposes. Restricted Funds are to be used solely for the purpose for which they were raised or donated. At 30 June 2025, the Charity had Restricted Funds of £3,000, donated solely to support the 2025/26 concert season

No remuneration or expenses were paid during the period to any Charity Trustee or person connected to a Trustee. The only payments made to Charity Trustees were reimbursement of expenditure incurred on behalf of the Charity.
