INTRODUCTION WELCOME FROMTHE CHAIR OFTRUSTEES rr It is with great pride and a deep sense of purpose thot we present the first onnual accounts for Go Full STEAM, o charity born out of a shored recognition of the disparities facing young people in our inner-city communities, and the belief that Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathemotics (STEAM) con offer powerful pothways to opportunity. We aim to realise the po- tential in young people through Science, Technolo- gy, Engineering Art and Maths so they can be the best they can and be pre- pared for the lives they cannot foresee. Our vision is simple but urgent: to create a bridge between the talented, cre- otive young people of boroughs like Islington, and the industries shaping our future. many of which are just a stone's throw away. Old Street, London's"Silicon Roundabout-, is a global tech hub, bustling with startups, data scientists, de- signers, coders and engineers. But for many of the young people passing this area daily on their way to school, that world can feel entirely out of reach. Go Full STEAM exists to change that. We want to make the invisible visible to open new routes into these industries for young people who have the potential, but not yet the access. Through immersive technologies such as virtual reality, and through hands-on engagement with real-world solutions like renewable energy, we aim to spork curiosity, build skills, ond foster ambition. GO FULL STEAM This first year has been focused on loying strong foundations.. listening to our community, building portnerships, and launching our first programmes in col- laboration with local youth workers, educators, and technologists. Already, we've seen the impact that early exposure to these tools and ideos con have. A sense of possibility begins to grow, ond ospirotions shift. We are committed to staying rooted in the community, led by the needs and voices of yOLJng people themselves. And we are equally committed to excel- lence, bringing them into contact with the best of the sector, and helping them imagine ond build o future in which they belong. As we look ahead, we are excited to continue growing our impact- and deeply grateful to everyone who has supported us so far. Realit Check. Our Flagship i/R Programme Cycle Science Lab Before this project. I never really thought about how much sci8nGe goes into a bike. Now I know how gears and brakes work, and I can fix things myself. It mode leorning way more fun l actually looked forward to coming each week. Derrick. oged 16 Over 6 sessions we explore STEAM subjects through bicycles. Covering everything from the forces that keep a bike upright when cycling to how braking systems work. we provid8 a honds-on workshop experience that allows participants to optimise a bicycle's performance, carry out safety checks and assess whether it's roadworthy. li We explore which tools to use and how to use them. Participants learn how to dismontle ond reossemble wheels, brokes ond geors whilst exploring the Science. Technology. Engineering. Art and Maths behind how they work. Our 6-week cycling and bike maintenance programmes provides honds-on. workshop bosed opportunities to explore STEAM subjects. Reality Check, our flogship VR experience, is a programme that explores the pressure to carry a knife and the risks and potential outcomes for young people through a VR headset. U•1 '.<A Reality Check ollows po rticiponts to be o protogonist who interocts directly with other choracters and makes decisions which chonge the outcome of the story. VR is o perfect exomple of o new technology thot gives young people ogency allowing them to safely explore themes oround carrying knifes and knife crime. R8ality Check is not adult led and gives young people the power to explore the content without direction and then return to the group to discuss their individual decisions and outcomes.
