The charity was registered on 21 May 2024. It began operating on 1 October 2024 following a resolution passed to transfer all assets and liabilities from the predecessor organisation: an unincorporated , not-forprofit community organisation.

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document
The Charity is established to advance the education of the Horsham public in dramatic arts, particularly the art of music and drama, by the production of musicals and plays and to advance such charitable purposes as the Board of Trustees shall determine.

Performances of plays and musicals at various venues in the Horsham community.
Regular rehearsals and workshops for the youth company, supporting their development and preparation for performances.
Meeting regularly twice each week to rehearse and instruct members in readiness for planned performances.
Educate and develop members of the community in all aspects of theatre production such as making costumes and painting scenery.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Although HAODS has been in existence for over 70 years, this report covers the period from 1/10/24 ( when a resolution was passed to transfer the activities from the old unincorporated society to the CIO) to 30/6/25 the first period end as a CIO.
During this period we had three highly successful shows.
Nov-24: Addams Family at the Capitol Theatre, Horsham Apr-25: Little Shop of Horrors at the Capitol Theatre Horsham May-25: Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters at the Barnes Green Village Hall
We had weekly youth sessions for over 30 children in term times, and we are proud that these are inclusive and affordable. (after the period covered by this report they performed to over 400 people with their end of year show)
We performed on the local bandstand and at the town museum.
The trustees are satisfied that the objectives of the charity were met as members of the community who might not otherwise have the opportunity were able to perform on stage and work backstage. The public were able to see three important shows including the work of legendary composer Alan Menken and celebrated fantasy author Terry Pratchett.
During the period the CIO entered into a lease on the property that the predecessor organisation had occupied for a number of years. The lease would have ended on 30[th] September 2026 but was terminated early by the landlord after the period end.

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
The Charity operates on a non-profit making basis. Any surplus for a financial period is retained to be utilised by HAODS for the benefit of the society and its members.

Receipts from shows include ticket sales, programme sales and show fees.
The charity sells commemorative tee-shirts for each show. It only charges the cost of production. Any difference between income and cost is due to timing differences between receiving income and paying for the tee shirts to be produced.
The gift of assets from predecessor organisation is the cash balance of the unincorporated non-for-profit society on 30[th] September 2024. The members passed a resolution to transfer all assets and their membership on 1[st] October 2024.
The property costs are atypically high due to the successful negotiation of a lease extension, resulting in a backdated payment of rent for the previous period during the current period.
