Para 1.20 YWAM Kausar supports the work of an arts
centre for artists. The community centre does
not exist for the advancement of the arts nor is
it a cultural centre, it exists to support
marginalised artists of various ethnic and
linguistic background.
The centre can help artists with their
communications, offer rehearsal space, enable
intercultural collaboration and the creation of
new compositions able to draw people of
various backgrounds together in events and
thereby foster social cohesions. The aim is to
develop artist skills and reduce mistrust
between diverse communities in London. Our
monthly Asian open mic events bring people
together from backgrounds as diverse as
Japanese, Pakistani, Tamil, Punjabi, Philippino,
S.African and Afro Caribbean.
These and similar events:

Tackle disinformation

Share safe spaces

Refocus attention on the positives of
‘the other’

Overcome barriers to the betterment of
one another

Foster kindness, generosity, increase
awareness of one another.
This kind of cohesion can only be played out at
the local level. It builds competence, capacity
and skill, helping groups communicate and solve
tensions between them it also helps inter-
generationally.
