Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
We hold regular fundraising events in which all members of the club participate. Examples of which are our New Years Day Dip in the sea, in which members of the public are sponsored to swim in the North Sea. Another example is the Santa Sleigh that is taken around the streets of Scarborough at Christmas time. From these donations a wide range of groups are helped in a variety ways. Examples of those residents to benefit are children and young people, the elderly, people with disabilities, other charities or voluntary bodies. In addition we raise funds via the generous donations given by general public during the various activities held by the Club. 100% of those donations go to Charitable Causes as deemed by a majority vote of the whole Club and ratified by the Trustees. Monies from charitable donations are never used for the “running” of the Club, all members are volunteers and pay a yearly subscription for that use. |
| Statement confirming whether the trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit |
Para 1.18 | As Trustees we have regard of public benefit by: Integrating public benefit into decision-making Regularly assess the effectiveness of charity programs and services. Trustees do not receive benefits from the charity in any shape or form. We as Trustees seek guidance from experts, such as the Charity Commission and Lions Clubs |
Headquarters to ensure we are meeting our public benefit obligations and staying up-to-date with best practices.
