Purpose: The principal purpose of Ruddington Baptist Church is the advancement of the Christian faith according to the principles of the Baptist Denomination. The church may also advance education and carry out other charitable purposes in the United Kingdom and/or other parts of the world.

Activities:

In fulfilling the Purpose the Church will engage in a range of activities, either on its own or with others, that will vary from time to time, with activities being initiated, expanded or closed as appropriate.

The activities may include but are not restricted to:

• Regular public worship, prayer, Bible study, preaching and teaching,

• Baptism, as defined in the Baptist Union’s Declaration of Principle,

• The Communion of the Lord’s Supper, which shall be observed at least once a month,

• Evangelism and mission, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally,

• The teaching, encouragement, welcome and inclusion of young people,

• Nurture and growth of Christian disciples,

• Education and training for Christian and community service,

• Giving and encouraging pastoral care,

• Supporting and encouraging charitable social action in the United Kingdom and abroad,

• Encouraging relationships with and supporting Baptists and other Christians.

The Trustees of Ruddington Baptist Church consider that they have complied with the duty to operate with regard to public benefit.

Achievements

During 2025 three people applied to be the Minister of Ruddington Baptist Church (RBC). None of these were a good fit and so we continued through the year without a Minister.

Despite this, RBC continued to function well. There was no sense of marking time, as we continued to move forward. Services were held on Most Sundays with a range of people from within and outside RBC leading and preaching.

Community Sundays morphed into lighter touch, all age services on the first week of the month.

The “Stand” reflective and prayer gatherings were held at The Hub during those months when we did not have a Church Members’ Meeting.

Church Services and Small Groups explored the Psalms, the Holy Spirit, Hosea and Advent during the year.

Our “Verse for the Year” was taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Three members left as they moved away from the area and three people were welcomed into membership. We had one baptism and the dedication of a very young person.

Safeguarding of children, young people and vulnerable adults remains key at RBC. The Safeguarding Policy was reviewed, as it is every year and any appropriate amendments or additions made.

Nappuccinos, a group for mums and their under ones, remained very popular and much appreciated, as a place where the highs and lows of motherhood can be shared, in a safe and welcoming environment, with coffee and cake.

First Steps, a group for mums and carers with toddlers, is a classic example of churches working together to bless the community; RBC working with The Methodist and Rock churches.

At the local junior school, the children were guided through the Easter Story by members of RBC and St Peter’s Anglican Church.

RBC’s Renew Green Spaces at the Allotment and Renew Café at The Hub, places where it is “ok not to be ok”, continued to meet weekly. Numbers remain small but those who come along love it.

A number of RBC members help to serve at The Honeycomb Charity Shop.

Joint Services were held with St Peter’s Anglican Church on Pentecost Sunday and Remembrance Sunday.

In 2024 the Charity Commission gave the go-ahead for RBC funds to be used alongside those of private investors to purchase a house for the pursuit of charitable aims. During 2025 a suitable house was identified, purchased and refurbished to a good standard. It was hoped that a suitable tenant family would be found in early 2026.

During the Christmas period, the wreath making Sunday was very well attended and appreciated.

Beer and Carols at the local pub was very popular and has become a regular and highly anticipated event, effectively heralding the arrival of the Christmas season in Ruddington.

Once again, as RBC did not have a Minister, we were able to support charitable projects with sizeable financial contributions, whilst adhering to our reserves policy.

Reserves Policy

The reserves policy of Ruddington Baptist Church is to hold between one and three months of all expenditure, to allow the church to adapt to any changes in the income and expenditure of the church. The trustees will report back to members annually on the reserves position and if required, advise on any proposed actions to return the church to the agreed reserve limits. The policy will be reviewed every three years. If the trustees identify future significant committed funds or designated funds then they are excluded from the reserves calculation. All restricted funds would also be excluded because the church cannot use them on normal expenditure.
