TRUSTEES’ REPORT
PERIOD ENDED 31[st] AUGUST 2024
Trustee’s Report 2024
The aims of the Pre-school are
-
A) to enhance the development and education of children primarily under statutory school age by encouraging parents to understand and provide for the needs of their children through community groups and by offering appropriate play, education and care facilities, family learning and extended hours groups
-
B) together with the right of parents to take responsibility for and to become involved in the activities of such groups, ensuring that such groups offer opportunities for all children whatever their race, culture, religion, means or ability. Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs in the local areas.
-
C) Instigating and adhering to the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Committee
Peter Pan Playschool was established in 1992, and in 2023/2024 transferred assets and reregistered with Ofsted and the Charities Commission to become Peter Pan Playschool (CIO) and the original Peter Pan Playschool charity closed. This removed the financial liability from the committee and reduced pressures of constantly changing committee members with families coming and going as Louise Sutherland and Valerie Botting as staff were able to become trustees. Louise also became the nominated individual for the Ofsted registration.
Graeme Self stepped down from the Committee role as Treasurer as part of the CIO conversion, having originally stayed in post after daughter Lily had moved on to Primary School.
Playschool Community
Peter Pan Playschool (CIO) continues to thrive with strong admissions and a positive reputation in the local community. We continue to support a high number of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in our inclusive mainstream provision, with ten children on Surrey Support Plans during the year.
We continue to provide funded places for disadvantaged two year olds, and have an increased number of children eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium. We pride ourselves on being able to operate without having any additional top up charges for parents accessing funded early education due to our charitable status and lower running costs due to this.
We secured a Tesco charitable grant during the year which enabled us to enhance the mud kitchen provision in the garden as well as purchasing a new balance frame. This has been brilliant to support our children with little outdoor provision at home.
We continue to share posts on our Facebook page and write articles for Bookham Bulletin each quarter. A weekly newsletter is shared with parents to share information regularly and we use Tapestry to share the children’s learning and development milestones.
We introduced CPOMS safeguarding software during the year and this has been successful in streamlining our safeguarding concerns logging as well as being an efficient way to access

information if required for referrals or supporting child protection meetings and information sharing.
Bookham Village Day was well attended with a large number of children and parents turning out for the parade which is also brilliant advertising in the local community.
Admissions are strong and we are now operating a waiting list for September 2024 and beyond.
