Para 1.17 The object of the charity is to promote the
understanding and preservation of the
culture heritage of North African to second
generation Londoners and the wider UK
public. The charity will actively engage and
educate using mechanism including but not
limited to, portable heritage exhibitions and
cultural workshops (carpet weaving, pottery
making, leather & silver work). Exposure and
participation will encourage tolerance,
understanding and enthusiasm for cultural
diversity. Additionally, the charity will
promote the value of age-old traditions and
North African specific “crafting” techniques in
offering new insights into environmental
sustainability and renewable resourcing.
Africa Gate will draw on the knowledge and
skills of the older members of the North
Africa London community to participate as
holders of “cultural heritage” and heritage
mentors to younger members of the
community. Whenever possible, the charity
will develop “archival” resources that can be
shared with other charitable organizations,
schools, academic research and
anthropologists, museums and arts
communities to extend the impact of public
education, promotion of cultural diversity and
acceptance of North African cultural
heritage.
