| Volunteer Driveta, using their own vehicles, |
| gave their time to provide transpod for484 |
| journeys totalling 8172miles to healthcare |
| appointments. Cover was provided seven days aweek. At the end of2023there were 32 |
| volunteer drivers. |
| Itwas noted by the trustees that there were |
| some occasions where drivers went above |
| and beyond the call ofduty to assist clients |
| with early morning or late evening runs and |
| waiting for cfients when appointments went |
| over the normal two hour wait limit. |
| During the period ofthis report SAHS lost4 |
| drivers and recruited 2more. |
| Ofnote, volunteer driver lan Dyke retired'in |
| August 2023atter 16years service tothe |
| organisation including time spent asa driver, |
| in the oNce and asjoint co-ordinator. Ian |
| received atoken ofappreciation from the |
| trustees for his valuable contribution to SAHS |
| Trustees. |
| On 31"May 2023 SAHS was regiitered as a |
| Foundation Charitable Incorporated |
| Organisation (CIO) with a new constitution. |
| In the months leading up to the 31"May 2023 |
| the trustees commenced a review of |
| governance and sought legal advice and |
| assistance from Shakespeare Mariineau |
| Solicitors. Their Head ofCharities Catherine |
| Rustomji carefully guided the trustees through |
| the process of registering SAHS as a |
| Foundation CIO with the Charity Commission. |
| The aftermath of becoming a CIO led toa |
| flurry ofactivity to improve governance |
| rocedures as follows. |

| In total the oflice volunteers handled ISO |

| result ofthe clients' appointment being |
| cancelled by the healthcare organisation, |
| some ofthem due to industrial action by the |

| sickness orhad made alternative transpod |
| arrangements. |
| There were 9journeys that olfice volunteers |
| were unable to find drivers for. Itwas noted |
| that this mainly occurred during summer |
| holiday times. |

| undertaken during the period ofthis report. |
| Clients frequently verbally express to oNce |
| volunteers and drivers their appreciation and |
| gratitude forthe setvtce SAHS provides. |
| Kings Awad fior Voluntary Service (KAVS) |
| In September2023SAHS was formafiy . |
| nominated forthe Kings Award forVoluntary |
| Service. Equivalent toan MBE, KAVS isthe |
| highest Award given to local voluntary groups |
| Irithe UK, and they are awarded for life. |
| The nominafion was submitted by one of our |
| cfients who often uses the servides ofthe |
| Scheme and was supported by wonderful |
| letters ofrecommendafion from'two other |
| tegular clients. In November 2023SAHS was |
| advised we were eligible for oonsideration and |
| that an assessment process would commence |
| early in 2024. |
| The award process isa lengthy one with |
| results not known until November 2024. No |
| matter the outcome it is an honour for SAHS |
| to be considered forthis award. |
