Summary of the purposes
of the charity as set out in
its governing document
Para 1.17 The objectives of BCDD are:
(I) To advance and promote good health,
in particular, but not exclusively, among
those of Caribbean heritage/ethnicity
residing in the UK, by delivering health
education workshops and talks and by
disseminating literature.
(II) To promote equality and diversity in
medicine and dentistry by the elimination
of discrimination on the grounds of race,
advancing education and raising
awareness in equality and diversity, and
by conducting or commissioning
research on equality and diversity issues
and publishing the results to the public.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to
those purposes for the
public benefit, in particular,
the activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17
and 1.19
Health Promotion workshops -
A combination of webinars and in person
seminars covering health topics which
are prevalent in the Black community
(e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure,
fibroids). These are free workshops
delivered by qualified doctors and
dentists who are experts within each
specific field and open to all in the Black
community. The aim is to increase health
literacy and empower the community to
take charge of their health.
Professional Development -
In order to increase representation of
Caribbean doctors and dentists in
leadership positions within the NHS and
improve overall career prospects, we
have curated a mentorship program for
our members and also delivered training
in leadership and management skills. We
have also launched a student volunteer
scheme for young people wishing to gain
experience in medicine or dentistry
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the
guidance issued by the
Charity Commission on
public benefit
Para 1.18 The above duties have been carried out
with regard to the commission’s public

Achievements and performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the
charity, identifying the
difference the charity’s
work has made to the
circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any
wider benefits to society
as a whole.
Para 1.20 During the year ended April 2025, we
delivered activities aligned with our
charitable objectives to reduce health
inequalities and improve health
outcomes within Caribbean communities
in the UK. We provided culturally
competent health education through
community events, and public
engagement activities, addressing
conditions that disproportionately affect
Caribbean and wider Black populations.
Beneficiaries gained increased
awareness of health risks, symptoms,
and screening, contributing to earlier
presentation and improved engagement
with NHS services.
Our work in supporting future healthcare
professionals contributed to the long-
term public benefit of a more diverse and
representative workforce, which is
recognised as an important factor in
reducing health inequalities. Wider
benefits to society include improved
community trust in healthcare systems,
strengthened collaboration across health
and community organisations, and
increased awareness of health equity
issues at both community and
professional levels.
Fundraising and awareness-raising
activities during the period increased our
visibility and sustainability, enabling
reinvestment into community
programmes and future initiatives.
Importantly, BCDD continued to position
itself as a trusted voice in conversations
on health equity, representation, and
prevention, influencing both community
attitudes and professional discourse.
The Trustees confirm that the charity’s
activities during the year were carried out
for the public benefit in furtherance of its
charitable purposes.

Financial review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the
end of the period
Para 1.21 At the end of the reporting period, the
charity remained in a stable financial
position. Income during the year was
generated primarily through fundraising
activities, donations, and events, and
was applied in furtherance of the
charity’s objectives. Expenditure was
carefully managed and focused on
delivering charitable activities and
maintaining effective governance and
administration.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 The Caribbean Doctors' and Dentists'
Association currently does not have a
reserves policy, due to our simplified
nature of operation.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 At the end of the reporting period, the
charity held unrestricted reserves, as set
out in the Statement of Financial
Position. The Trustees consider the level
of reserves to be appropriate to meet the
charity’s short-term obligations and to
support planned activities.
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22
Details of fund materially
in deficit
Para 1.24 nil
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a
going concern
Para 1.23 The charity ended the period with
