A combination of webinars and in person
seminars covering health topics which
are prevalent in the Black community
(e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure,
fibroids). These are free workshops
delivered by qualified doctors and
dentists who are experts within each
specific field and open to all in the Black
community. The aim is to increase health
literacy and empower the community to
take charge of their health.
Professional Development -| |||In order to increase representation of
Caribbean doctors and dentists in
leadership positions within the NHS and
improve overall career prospects, we
have curated a mentorship program for
our members and also delivered training
in leadership and management skills. We
have also launched a student volunteer
scheme for young people wishing to gain

achievements of the
charity, identifying the
difference the charity’s
work has made to the
circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any
wider benefits to society

delivered activities aligned with our
charitable objectives to reduce health
inequalities and improve health
outcomes within Caribbean communities
in the UK. We provided culturally
competent health education through
community events, and public
engagement activities, addressing
conditions that disproportionately affect
Caribbean and wider Black populations.
Beneficiaries gained increased
awareness of health risks, symptoms,
and screening, contributing to earlier
presentation and improved engagement
with NHS services.
Our work in supporting future healthcare
professionals contributed to the long-
term public benefit of a more diverse and
representative workforce, which is
recognised as an important factor in
reducing health inequalities. Wider
benefits to society include improved
community trust in healthcare systems,
strengthened collaboration across health
and community organisations, and
increased awareness of health equity
issues at both community and
professional levels.
Fundraising and awareness-raising
activities during the period increased our
visibility and sustainability, enabling
reinvestment into community
programmes and future initiatives.
Importantly, BCDD continued to position
itself as a trusted voice in conversations
on health equity, representation, and
prevention, influencing both community
attitudes and professional discourse.
