Opening the Winding engine and colliery to the public and school parties. In September 23 the Trust received an advance payment from the Heritage Lottery Fund to enable the Hetty Futures Program to commence. This is a series of repair and development projects aimed at enhancing the safety and longevity of the winding engine and the other listed structures on site. The aim is to open up far more of the site to visitors, and for community use , and to operate the winding engine regularly. Elements completed in this first year of a 3 year project include :- Extensive repairs to masonry walls supporting the pit bank; Provision of a new Fire Escape for the Winding House and the purchase and import of a special high volume compressor from China which has been permanently installed to enable the winding engine to be run on a regular basis. Further elements of this program will continue into 2026. |

The developments taking place under the Futures Program will enable us to enhance the visitor experience and expand access to the site buildings and structures. The Futures Project includes the production and distribution of information and history regarding The Hetty winding engine and buildings, School packs etc. also the establishment of Media outlets such as web site/ Facebook etc. |
