**In September 23 the Trust received an**
**advance payment from the Heritage**
**Lottery Fund to enable the Hetty Futures**
**Program to commence. This is a series**
**of repair and development projects**
**aimed at enhancing the safety and**
**longevity of the winding engine and the**
**other listed structures on site. The aim**
**is to open up far more of the site to**
**visitors, and for community use , and to**
**operate the winding engine regularly.**
**Elements completed in this first year of**
**a 3 year project include :- Extensive**
**repairs to masonry walls supporting the**
**pit bank; Provision of a new Fire Escape**
**for the Winding House and the purchase**
**and import of a special high volume**
**compressor from China which has been**
**permanently installed to enable the**
**winding engine to be run on a regular**
**basis. Further elements of this program**
