Objectives & Activities

The provision of a community orchard for the benefit of the inhabitants and visitors to Clanfield, Oxfordshire and the surrounding area, promoting the preservation of heritage fruit trees, advancing environmental protection and improvement of the natural environment.

To promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of Clanfield and the surrounding area the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said inhabitants .

- In 2024 we continued to develop the Orchard and maintain the area with a team of volunteers. In Winter we planted an additional 17 heritage fruit trees and in Autumn we planted native Spring Flowering bulbs.

- We held 3 successful community events, a Blossom Day Picnic in Spring, an Art- in-the Orchard Day in Summer and an Apple Day in the Autumn
Achievements and Performance

The main achievements of the charity in the period were:

The continuing development of the Orchard, including the planting of an additional 17 nationally important heritage fruit trees

Planting three espalier Pear trees and four espalier Apple trees, funded by the Coronation Living Heritage Fund to commemorate the Coronation of King Charles III

Adding QR codes to each tree label and signage, advancing the education relating to the preservation of heritage fruit trees, environmental protection and the improvement of the natural environment

Celebrating the official opening of the Orchard by hosting a Village Community Picnic with traditional Morris Dancing on National Orchard Blossom Day

Hosting an Art-in-the-Orchard Day to engage the community in creating a lasting visual record of the Orchard as it grows & establishes

Hosting an Apple Day to engage with the community, preserving country traditions and celebrating the Autumn season

Hosting a coppicing workshop where volunteers learnt to improve and manage the natural environment of the copse area

Continuing to hold regular volunteer mornings to undertake general maintenance and improvement - numbers of volunteers growing as the year progressed

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period
At the end of the second year the charity remains in a positive financial position. The charity continued to use the restricted funding which had been secured for set up costs and has successfully generated unrestricted funding for operational costs from events such as Apple Day. The charity is continuing to spend from this income and donations and has reserves to meet its obligations for 2025.
