It has been a great past year and it has been a pleasure to see the club full on so many occasions. Aside from all the sports being played down here, Alex & Kayleigh are going to so much effort to put on lots of different events. In particular they have the successful Friday club night including a new darts team, various bands, bingo, brunches and now the newly formed Aunt Sally teams; the club really is a hive of activity.

When you look at all the different activities we are able to offer here, you could definitely argue there is something for everyone. It is particularly encouraging to see so many sections coaching and bringing on so many young people of Shipston into their sports and who will no doubt continue playing for many years to come. I can’t mention them all but to share a few highlights –

• Tennis coaching sessions in surrounding schools as well as many well attended sessions here at the club.

• Cricket “All Stars” offering Friday evening sessions s to well over 90 children as well as junior coaching.

• Football offering teams & coaching from age 5 upwards & now having a successful PAN Disability team.

• Joey Squance giving her time to provide hockey training to 30+ children at the High School on a weekly basis on a concrete tennis court.

We should be super proud of all these amazing opportunities that we as a club are offering the young people of Shipston.

Behind the scenes of running the club there are many people who give up their own time to help with ongoing maintenance of the

room building & grounds. We are HUGELY appreciative of all these people and want to say a huge thank you to you all.

This leads me on to other thank yous that we must give out to everyone who has supported us over the last year to ensure we continue to offer invaluable sporting facilities to the Shipston community. I also wanted to give special mention to all the volunteers & those involved in putting on another successful Fireworks Night. Another bumper attendance & a spectacular evening. This is our main fundraiser and without the team of volunteers building the bonfire, manning the gate & stalls, running the bar, selling mulled wine etc, etc, we would not be able to put this event on. So thank you everyone for your continued support & we look forward to another successful event this year.

I think we can all agree it’s been a positive year for Shipston Sports Club and one that we look forward to building on for the next year. No doubt we will have challenges to face in the up and coming year but one thing we can all be sure of, we have a fantastic facility to be proud of & one that will continue to provide sporting facilities to Shipston and the wider community.

I always like to follow with a personal plea to everyone to ensure they continue to support the club, attend the events, use the bar, come and support the teams, hire the room for your events and in any way possible. Without this support it makes running the club very difficult, so please do what you can.

Lastly, thanks to all the Sports Club Committee who are built up of a team of volunteers who give their personal time to ensure the club runs smoothly. A LOT of work goes on behind the scenes, of which I am sure not everyone is aware, it is often a thankless task but one that is super rewarding. As always we are keen to recruit new members to the committee so if you think you can make a difference, share your ideas & contribute, please do let us know, we would love you to join us.
