Wells-Cole Trust Fund Financial Year 2023 – Charity No. 1201436

Trustees Report

The Trustees decided that the management of the Fund would be somewhat easier if the income was generated uniformly throughout the year so, with advice from the Financial Adviser, the income from the investment portfolio would be provisionally set at £2,500 per calendar month and regularly reviewed.

The application for Charitable Incorporated Organisation status was finally approved after a somewhat protracted period, due in part to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a solicitor’s bill being double the original estimate, but this was reduced after negotiation.

The focus then returned to addressing recreation facilities within the village of Saham Toney starting with the Wells-Cole Community Centre which was beginning to show its 27 years of intensive usage. The wooden doors and windows were replaced with similarly coloured upvc low maintenance un its after several quotes were obtained.

Attention was then turned to public seating around the village which was beginning to become unattractive and unusable being made of wood which was deteriorating. The Trustees decided that these should be replaced with recycled plastic units where possible, again drastically reducing the maintenance aspect.

Appeals have been made to the village in respect of projects that will meet the requirements of the late Neville Wells-Cole will.

Currently two major projects are being evaluated with respect to the Playing Field Pavilion and the Children’s Play Park, the latter some 17 years old and in need of upgrading and/or replacement. There is also renewed interest in the somewhat neglected Bird Sanctuary now that funds could be made available to manage this green space for flora and fauna alike while helping to reduce the flood risk for this area of the village.

Further income is anticipated from the late Neville Wells-Cole’s estate which the Trustees were advised would be apparent in due course. This would be subject to the same conditions as indicated in the Will.

R. Harrold – Chair of Trustees
