Para 1.17 | To further or benefit the residents of Newsham and the surrounding area, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents. In furtherance of these objects but not otherwise, the trustees shall have power: to establish or secure the establishment of a community centre or community hub and to maintain or manage or co-operate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the charity in furtherance of the above objects. |

Para 1.20 | Family Learning to support adults improve basic skills Cooking from Scratch sessions, including budgeting, to help adults learn to make cost effective, healthy nutritious meals. Eco-Uniform Scheme, the recycling of school uniform appears to have reduced the stigma associated with second hand clothes. The Eco-uniform scheme is now run by a volunteers Citizen’s Advice Frontline providing immediate advice, support and signposting for families. Community Allotment and Garden to help families to experience first-hand the benefits of growing their own produce. It promotes a healthy lifestyle through exercise, which results in improved mental health, and also the outcome of more tasty vegetables at a fraction of the cost. This is now promoted by social prescribers from two GP practices in Blyth. Local Councillors surgeries and consultations on the local area. From the 10 adults who attended family learning sessions over the year, over half of the group have improved the life chances for themselves and their families through gaining employment. |
The community spirit and friendships that have developed between individuals resulting in less isolation and new friendships being evident. A sense of purpose and increased confidence in individuals who now believe in themselves.
