Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document	Para 1.17	Objects of the charity as stated in the consttuton The Charity is to provide and maintain the Hall for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish and its environs without distncton of politcal, religious or other opinions etc, to advance educaton and provide facilites in the interest of social welfare for recreatonal and leisure tme actvites with the object of improving the conditons of life for said inhabitants.

Para 1.17 and 1.19	The hall was in full use for the year and benefted from an increased number of private letngs. We contnued with all our usual actvites – fairs, events, cafes and group meetngs. The user groups have all increased in size and therefore revenue for the hall We contnued with the very popular pop up pubs as well as supportng the church in all their events This year we also hosted an art exhibiton The hall contnues to be used as a polling staton when required providing a local venue for electon votng It was identfed this year that extensive work on the exterior masonry was required and this was completed

Contribution made by volunteers	Para 1.38	We contnue to have an excellent group of trustee volunteers and supporters that help to maintain the hall and run the events We are very grateful for the many hours the trustees and other volunteers gave during the year to help maintain the fabric of the hall, to raise funds, to assist at various events and to publicise the hall. Without this commitment and valuable contributon, the day to day running of the hall would be difcult and our fnancial positon would not be so strong Thankyou to everyone for their support
Other		The trustees decided to change the charity to a CIO – we worked closely with Staffs Support Village Halls network team to get this processed. This new CIO Charity – Maer Village Hall 1200870 was registered on 1st November 2022 We have been in the process of changing the land registry title deeds from this charity to the new one and getting all the necessary forms completed for obtaining new bank accounts and updating the investment accounts – this had taken much longer than expected This was completed by the end of January 2024 The old charity will be closed this year

Achievements and Performance

Para 1.20	The monthly community cafes have had a huge impact for the community providing a central place in the village and wider community for social interacton. The Knit and Nater group has gone from strength to strength atractng members form further afeld in the rural community The Apple pressing day provided a fabulous interactve session for families and groups to make their own apple juice. The non proft making calendar competton provides an opportunity to share and engage with the local surroundings resultng in a beautful calendar The “PopUpPubs” have contnued andprovide another

opportunity for villagers and friends to get together for a fun social evening. The yearly quiz raising continues to be a brilliant night as well as raising funds for Alzheimers research UK. The Charity’s work this year has most definitely contributed to the wellbeing of the community providing a focus for social interaction and many activities.

How is the charity constituted?	Para 1.25	Maer Village Hall is a Registered CIO Charity (Number 1200870), run and maintained by Trustees, for the beneft of the residents of Maer Parish and its environs. Its status arises from the will of Jane Ellen Leslie Harrison, proved with two codicils thereto in the Principal Registry on 12thMarch 1964 and in the mater of the Charites Act 1960 The Charity is considered both the actvites of, within, and on behalf of Maer Village Hall and the physical property as defned in the Trust Deed. The Trust Deed sets down the administraton and management provisions for the Charity, which are summarised below in the remaining paragraphs of this Consttuton secton
Trustee selection methods including details of any constitutional provisions e.g. election to post or name of any person or body entitled to appoint one or more trustees	Para 1.25	The Charity is to be managed and administered by a Management Commitee, to act as the Charity Trustees within the meaning of Secton 46 of the Charites Act 1960. The Management Commitee members is to comprise:  5 Elected Members  Trustees  Representatve Members for user groups All Members are to retre from ofce at the next Annual General Meetng (AGM) afer they come into ofce but may be re-elected or re-appointed at the same meetng. The 5 elected members are nominated and seconded at the AGM by any other trustee/commitee member. Representatve members are invited to join the commitee on a volunteer basis. Co-opted members are invited and voted on by the existngtrustees.
