The majority of our activity is in the Newark and Sherwood area and we work in partnership with= Newark and Sherwood District Council The Nottingham Refugee Forum Homestart Framework, Opportunity and Change The Farnsfield Refugee Outreach Group Southwell Support for Refugees The families we currently support come from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. We help them build their new lives in the UK by= Befriending families and helping them settle into their new surroundings Organising monthly coffee mornings- encouraging community cohesion and development of language skills Supporting families in their efforts to learn English Providing business and accounting advice to those aspiring to start their own businesses Providing additional items such as bicycles, televisions, clothing, garden eouipment, household goods Improving their employment prospects by offering driving lessons to the breadwinner of each family Organising educational trips to London Organising Christmas parties Fundraisingchallenges: Fundraising to support our delivery remains challenging with fewer revenue grant opportunities available to us in 2024. Many grants offer funding for capital expenditure and as a very small charity, we do not aspire to this type of investment currently. As a charity supporting migrants, the current political climate also creates barriers to fun(Jraising activities thar were prevlously verywell supported locally. We thank Nottinghamshire County Council for their support through the Local Communities Funding and Newark and Sherwood District Council who supported our educational trip to Lon(Jon and our annual Christmas party. The Future: The need for our services is increasing. It is so important to provide friendship, practical support and encouragement to the new families arriving in the UK. Unsuppoited they would struggle. Many would be unable to integrate into our culture with little hope of becoming productive, contented memberswithin our communities. SREM is proud ofwhatwe and ourfamilies have achieved together. Success breeds success. Our work will continue as the need grows
