Ryedale and District Mencap CIO AGM

Charity Number: 1200586

AGM on 19.07.2023, at 7pm for 7.30pm, held at The Barn, The Croft Community, Highfield Road, Malton YO17 9SL

Chair’s Report

  1. A very warm welcome to you all and thank you for attending this evening. Also, thanks to the Croft Community for allowing us to use their premises.

  2. You will notice a slight change in our name, that you gave us permission to alter at our last meeting. We are now a CIO...Charity Incorporated Organisation with less risk of litigation and better grant access. This slight change in our name meant much work, so thank you trustees and Josey for your valuable input.

  3. Storage has always been a big problem for us as we don’t have our own premises, but a vast amount of “gear”

In Autumn 2022, we bought two insulated lorry bodies, sited them in a small yard in Pickering, for a small rent. With much help from you, we moved all our stuff from a damp cellar in Malton. And sold some redundant items.

It is very easy for Josey and Lucy to store articles

there and access what she needs.

  1. Eventually we opened a new bank account, so our new treasurer, John Wardell will find payments and refunds easier. I'd like to thank Natalie Horsman, Emily Harrison and Francis Miaetta who all kept us afloat before John took on this role. Many thanks John for taking on this job.

  2. Our new website ends in .com

Josey and Lucy were amazing in creating this stunning website. It is interactive, so you can see what's coming up, book and pay all on our website.

As grant suppliers always view our website first, hopefully they too will be impressed.

  1. Accessible caravan at Skipsea Sands.

We were left a very generous bequest some time ago from a previous member, for which we are extremely grateful.

With lots of research by our members, Josey and Lucy, Parkdean Resort at Skipsea Sands was chosen to place our brand-new holiday home, that some of us trialled in summer 2022.

This year, Lucy and Josey dedicated much of their time, firstly setting up and then taking 4 groups to thoroughly enjoy a superb holiday.

I'm sure you all wish to join me in thanking Josey and Lucy for giving their time and expertise to this new venture.

When not used by use, we receive a small income from the caravan as Parkdean rent it out. If you know people who wish to rent our caravan, we can give you the details. It is popular as it is fully “accessible”.

More of our members are going in September 2023.

Now that we have the experience of owning and running the caravan, things will be much easier next year.

  1. We changed Josey's job title and salary to better reflect the wonderful work she does. Any suggestions for future activities are welcome.

  2. “Thanks Galore”

Accountant Andrew at White and Hoggard, Malton for freely sorting and accrediting our accounts

To retired committee members for their dedication over the years:-

Eileen, Derek Searle,Alan Ross, Emily Mark, Sylvian, Natalie,

Very special thanks to Elizabeth Moss, who wishes to retire. Her input has been invaluable, and Elizabeth will continue to help us as a member.

We are a vibrant successful charity, even through difficult financial and …... times

Let's hope we can continue in this vein, especially as we have already ticked so many outstanding boxes.

Without our totally committed trustees and Josey, none of this is possible.

Thank you so much for hanging in when times get tough. We all do this to benefit our very appreciative service-users.

Long may we be able to continue.

I have tried to provide a suitabl¢ narrative bas¢d on my limited knowledge of your activities and would very much welcome any addilional ideas or input that will either Supplement or replace entirely my comment5. 2. We have to have a deprecialion policy for the stslic ¢aravan. For Ih¢ moment these accounts adopt a depreciation rate of l 00/0 which is designed to write the caravan off over a ten year period. Depreciation is nornially based on a method designed to write An asset off over its expected useful life and will sometimes take accouni of its value at the end of that Useful life. In e55ence I have chosen to use a ten year period bul if the caravan is likely to have a useful life in excess of ten years then this can easily be revised. -]- Continued ACCA PRINCIPAL: Andrew W.
