SORP reference
Summary of the main From evaluations of individual and family
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 counselling sessions submitted at the end of
their series of eight sessions (which is the
most commonly received number of
sessions), it is evident that clients have
benefitted considerably from the counselling
they have received. The charity acquired the
services of an equine therapist, and the
clients referred to her, mainly children, have
been helped considerably by this form of
counselling.
The school-based parent support groups
have also been well-received, enabling
parents to discuss concerns within the group
and learn from each other as well as from
the facilitating counsellor. The schools also
benefit, for example from improved
relationships with the parents and less
disruptive behaviour from pupils.

Achievements against
objectives set
Para 1.41 HearSay Charitable Trust set the following
objectives in its Business Plan covering the
period 2022 to 2025:

To increase the number of clients by
10% and increase the number of
counselling hours in the first year of
the plan.

To support families and carers of
students in four schools in the local
area.

To improve the organisation of the
Trust, and thereby the impacts of the
Trust’s work, by recruiting an
administrator and additional
volunteers. The part-time
Administrator will be in post by the
end of 2022 (requiring the Trustees
to decide on the job description,
hours and salary). Recruit other
volunteers by the end of 2022.

To put in place relevant policies and
procedures to improve efficiency in
the Trust’s operations, and review
them regularly, while ensuring the
impacts are measured through client
recommendations and evaluations.

To further improve the financial
position of the Trust by increasing
income through fund-raising from a
range of sources by increasing
visibility; applying for funding from

local, regional and national
organisations; developing a strong
donor base of both individual and
corporate donors; and undertaking a
range of fundraising events, including
street collections.
During 2023, considerable progress was
made against all objectives, although by the
end of 2023, both self–employed part-time
administrative staff had resigned for
personal reasons. The charity is aiming to
appoint one part-time administrator to be in
post by the beginning of 2025.
HearSay had, by the end of 2023, been
working with one school and a charity that
supports young carers, and good progress is
being made towards work with further
schools. The grant from the Colyer
Fergusson Charitable Trust is enabling the
charity to offer more of these very well-
received parent support groups in 2024.
The charity’s financial position was boosted
by the award of a grant from the colyer
Fergusson Charitable Trust of £11,000 in
October 2023.
Performance of fundraising Para 1.41 The charity has been successful in raising
activities against objectives sufficient funds through fund-raising
set activities and applications to foundations to
cover its running costs and to continue to
deliver counselling to a wide range of
people.

Financial Review

----- Start of picture text -----
Review of the charity’s Para 1.21 During the year under review, there was a
financial position at the end 39% increase in the total revenue (£32k in
of the period FY 2023 compared to £23k in FY 2022).
This was mainly because of a grant of £11k
from the Colyer-Ferguson Charitable Trust in
2023, and an increase in counselling
fees (£15k in FY 2023 compared to £8k in
FY 2022).
This increase in revenue enabled HearSay
to undertake more charitable activities (as
reflected, for example, in an increase in total
expenditure on counselling from £5k in FY
2022 to £19k in FY 2022). The charity was
able to carry forward £26k excess
unrestricted funds to support its activities in
FY 2024.
Statement explaining the Para 1.22 There is no policy for the Charity to hold
policy for holding reserves reserves. All unused resources (cash) are
stating why they are held carried forward to support the charity’s
activities.

charity for the next 12 months, even in the
absence of material donations.
