Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

The object of the CIO is to promote social inclusion for the public benefit of men, resident in Maldon Essex and surrounding areas, by assisting them from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of such people and assisting them to integrate into society through the provision of a social space in which they can meet jointly to undertake and share creative, physical, social and recreational activities. For this purpose, “socially excluded” means being excluded from society, or parts of society, as a

result of one or more of the following factors: unemployment; financial hardship; youth or old age; ill health (physical or mental). The Trustees have worked with MDC in obtaining/providing a larger building for The Shed operation giving greater scope to meet the objective of reducing isolation. In the report period, this has again not happened. Maldon Men’s Shed was gifted a donation of £20,000 on 24[th] April 2023, to be used for fitments and the creation of a meeting space to be used, in part, by MDC voluntary services. This donation was part of the legacy from Age Concern Essex that was disbanded. This funding is ring fenced in Restricted Funds. A workshop facility has been developed to promote Shedders interaction and thereby reducing isolation in the community. The trustees provide and maintain a structure of provision to allow practical activities. Shedders make items for personal use along with commissioned items. The activities bring communication, social interaction and well being. Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
