SORP reference

charity’s work has made to

beneficiaries and any wider

whole.
Para 1.20 Our activities:
In the year ending March 2023, Seven
Friends Foundation Trustees agreed on
our purpose as an organisation and our
application criteria.
We agreed that the Foundation’s funds will
be used to support charitable causes that
are considered unpopular or do not receive
widespread public attention.
This could be due to negative focus within
the media; due to difficulty in accessing
statutory, voluntary and institutional
funding; and/or due to the cause being
seen as politically controversial.
Examples of these types of causes or
groups may be:
• Asylum seekers and refugees
• Migrant communities
• Offenders and ex-offenders
• People experiencing violence or abuse
• Sex workers
• Trafficking and modern slavery
• Dependency or Addiction
• LGBT+
• Sexual and reproductive health
Trustees decided to support smaller groups
and organsations with an average annual
income of £300,000.
A number of our Trustees have extensive
experience in the charity sector and
recognise the huge challenges such
organisations face in securing funds.
We opened our application process during
this annual year, however, no grants were
awarded during this period.

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 Currently, all of Seven Friends Foundation’s
funds come from personal assets of the
trustees.
The trustees are responsible for ensuring
that charitable funds are properly used and
are satisfied with the provenance of the
donations and that no conditions are
attached to its expenditure. The governing
document describes the duties of trustees
in relation to benefits and payments,
conflicts of interest and decision making.
Other – Independent
Examination
The trustees have a legal duty under the
Charities Act 2011 to appoint ‘an
independent person who is reasonably
believed by the trustees to have the
requisite ability and practical experience to
carry out a competent examination of the
accounts’.
The trustees appointed Paul Allen to carry
out the independent examination. Mr Allen
is a trustee’s parent and as such the
trustees considered whether he would be
influenced or perceived to be influenced by
his relationship. After seeking advice from

the local Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and considering: a. His suitable and extensive skills and experience in managing finances in his career, voluntary work and understanding of the charity sector. b. There was no other connection to the charity; not as a donor, involvement with the running of the charity, nor a financial or commercial relationship with the charity or trustees. The trustees were satisfied that the examination would be carried out in line with guidance and regulations.
