ACTIVITIES & REVIEW OF THE YEAR

The Charity’s principal aim is to help the needy, by physical assistance, and by making grants and donations to individuals, voluntary organisations, and other charities.

We also raise money via The Lions Bookshop, Christmas collections and a variety of fund-raising events throughout the year. This includes the annual Highland Gathering which is the largest of the charitable events undertaken during the year.

Harpenden Lions CIO support the Life Skills project and distributes the proceeds of fund-raising activities to registered Charities, the Lions Club International, Schools and various grants that are made to individuals or organisations.

TRUSTEES RESPONSIBILITIES

The Trustees are required by law to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the financial state of the Charity and the results for the year then ended.

In preparing the accounts, the Trustees are required to select suitable accounting policies and apply them on a consistent basis, making judgments and estimates that are prudent and reasonable. The Trustees must also prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue its operations.

The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Act 1993.

The Trustees are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

Report to the Trustees

I have carried out an independent examination of the books for the year ended 30 June 2024 at your request.

I have reviewed the 83 pages of the GUIDANCE Independent examination of charity accounts: Directions and guidance for examiners (CC32) issue December 2017 as subsequently amended (restyled with typographical errors corrected) but without further document control reference.

The Harpenden Lions Club CIO is eligible for an independent examination.

No matter of material significance has come to my attention.

I am a member of Harpenden Lions Club CIO but have not been involved in the day to day administration nor do I have any close personal relationship with the Trustees to affect my independence, nor have I been a material donor.

The account records have been maintained to the required standard and consistent with the records of the Club on a receipts and payments basis.

Th Trustees have been appraised of the financial circumstances of the Club throughout the period of the accounts and at the end of the reporting period.

I have analysed the books and undertaken follow up discussion with the Treasurer and assisted the presentation of the accounts.

26/11/2024 David E Price dated ………….. 3 Thornbury Harpenden Herts AL5 5SN

Notes (not part of the report

“13.16 The examiner must not sign their report before the trustees have approved and signed the trustees’ annual report and the accounts. Until the trustees have approved and signed the accounts, the accounts are draft and not final.”
