2022

Objectives and activities (continued)

The charity's main activities

Ackworth Table Tennis Club delivers coaching to members of the local community. This comes in sessions at Ackworth School and Pontefract Squash Club during the week and Ackworth School during the holidays. We offer sessions to anyone, regardless of age, ability or background. The majority of the people who attend are under 18 but we have an increasing number of adults at the sessions. In addition to this, we enter our players into team competitions and support them entering individual competitions around the country. We also events at venues near us or at the ones we used for things such as competitions and coaching courses.

We have always put the players at the heart of the programme to try to do what is best for them and how we can support each individual in the ways they need, depending on their aims. We have people attending to be the best that they can and are representing Yorkshire and England and others that attend sessions for fun. In order to support this, we have a high number of coaches at sessions and are always keen to support others through their coaching journey.

Public benefit statement

In setting our objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given serious consideration to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit and in particular the advancement of amateur sport.

Achievements and performance

The club has had an increased number of sessions and hours coaching since Covid. This has been due to an increase in participants. We have been successful with grants, allowing the club to expand and work towards its overall goal of having a full time centre.

Some key successes this season are:

  1. Coach Chris attended the ISF World Schools Championships in France as coach for the England boys, where they finished 4th.

  2. Josh represented England Schools at the Senior Schools International in Largs, where his team won a bronze medal and he lost in the singles quarterfinals.

  3. Arthur was awarded the most improved Junior (U19) in Yorkshire.

  4. Tilly was awarded the most improved Cadet (U15) in Yorkshire.

Financial review

The net receipts for the period were £20,890, including net receipts of £13,430 on unrestricted funds and net receipts of £7,460 on restricted funds after transfers.

Reserves policy

The charity's free reserves, at the period end were £13,430.

The trustees have not yet adopted a reserves policy but will consider this further in due course.

Approved by the board of trustees on 20/10/2023

Independent examiner's report to the trustees of Ackworth Table Tennis Club

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the CIO for the period 4 March 2022 to 31 December 2022, which are set out on pages 5 to 8.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity trustees of the CIO you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act').

I report in respect of my examination of the CIO's accounts as carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Charities Act; 2 the accounts do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
