Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

THE ADVANCEMENT AND PRACTICE OF THE SIKH RELIGION AND TO PROVIDE MEANS OF RELIGIOUS, CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL TEACHING OF THE COMMUNITY THROUGH ORGANISED RELIGIOUS SERVICES

RSR has power to do anything (legal and/or charitable) which is calculated to further its objects or is conducive or incidental to doing so. In particular, RSR’s powers include power to:

• a) borrow money and to charge the whole or any part of its property as security for the repayment of the money borrowed. RSR must comply as appropriate with sections 124 and 125 of the Charities Act 2011 if it wishes to mortgage land

• b) buy, take on lease or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any property and to maintain and equip it for use

• c) sell, lease or otherwise dispose of all or any part of the property belonging to RSR. In exercising this power, RSR must comply as appropriate with sections 117 and 119-123 of the Charities Act 2011

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

• d) employ and remunerate such staff as are necessary for carrying out the work of RSR. RSR may employ or remunerate a charity trustee only to the extent that it is permitted to do so by clause 6 (Benefits and payments to charity trustees and connected persons) and provided it complies with the conditions of those clauses

• e) deposit or invest funds, employ a professional fund-manager, and arrange for the investments or other property of RSR to be held in the name of a nominee, in the same manner and subject to the same conditions as the trustees of a trust are permitted to do by the Trustee Act 2000

• f) raise funds, receive grants/contributions to support any particular projects and/or services

• g) support Gurmukhi and Punjabi language learning facilities including the reading and understanding of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

• h) co-ordinate with related institutions of United Kingdom to promote equality principles within these communities

• i) appoint and constitute such sub-groups necessary in the delivery of RSR aims and objects

• j) Provided Always that all such activities must not benefit any individual, body, company or other entity for personal gain and all activities must reflect the objects of RSR.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Management Report:

• I was select as the Chair at Sept 2023 AGM of the new CIO. The new team of trustees/volunteers were also selected as listed above. Numbering some 50 in total, they deliver many disparate services (18 trustees, rest volunteers) thru’ selfless seva. Our main programmes are running back to normal following restricted period during covid. Team of dedicated kitchen Sevadars (volunteers) prepare and serve our congregations with regular langar. Spiritual/faith services for births, deaths, Amrit, anniversary remembrances, etc. RSR also runs other programmes during the week to include: RSR Outreach ; • RSR, in partnership with SWAT provide Reading based service to the homeless twice a week, with hot food and other needs.

• • Monthly Knitter-Natter meetings where outputs are donated to local health care organisations

• • Engagement with local NHS, Macmillan, Foodbanks, and other orgs • Weekly Seniors meetings to encourage senior members to meet • Monthly seniors lunch • A special Ukraine delivery service was also conducted

• Other regular services: • All Sunday and Wed services were well delivered • Mobile in community religious and faith services in private homes • Schools, Scouts and other Orgs’ awareness events were delivered • Weekly Punjabi Language learning classes delivered • Weekly Music Kirtan/Tabla classes delivered • Weekly Ladies Sat Sang meetings conducted • Morning and evening prayers every day delivered • Fortnightly Kiddies Sangat for very young delivered

• The team supports many projects relating to RSR’s services and buildings so that we operate in a safe and healthy environment at all times. A number of developments from small jobs completed and extension works at rear commenced.

The team manages the letting and management of the RSR’s property at 236 London Road.

Achievements:

• CIO implemented fully with clear appointments structure

• New website developed and managed

• New younger trustees and sevadars appointed and trained

• Helped a few poor and distressed refugee families

ACCOUNTS FOR YEAR ENDED 31st MARCH 2024

I have audited the financial statements which comprise of the Income / Expenditure Statement and the Balance Sheet which have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

I planned and performed my audit so as to obtain sufficient information and explanations which I considered necessary in order to provide me with adequate evidence to give reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free from material misstatement,whether caused by fraud or other irregularity or error.

In my opinion the financial statements give a true and fair view of the state of the Sabha's affairs at 31 March 2024 and of its Surplus/Deficit for the year then ended.

In the course of the audit I have made some observations and would recommend that the following points be considered and action taken to ensure that proper control is maintained.

Observations / recommendations

• 1 Fund raising activities need to be managed in a manner such that proper financial control is maintained A number of receipt books issued to members during the year remain outstanding and this has given reconciliation difficulties. However, revenue declared in the accounts is unaffected as this has been reconciled with bank records.

• 2 The accounts include a tax rebate of £1,674 covering the period prior to 31/03/2020 Post Balance Sheet date the following rebates have also been received: 2020-21 & 2021-22 £5,994 received in Apr 2024

• 2022-23 £14,631 received in Jan 2025

• 3 As at 31st March 2024 RSR is holding the following donated funds reserved for specific projects: - £ 3,900 from Freemasons to be spent on Outreach projects
