Section C Objectives and activities

Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document

TREC is an amateur equestrian sport that promotes both ridden and non ridden activities to a very wide range of people from all walks of society and all types and size of ponies/horses. The age range extends from 4 years upwards as participants can to a very large

extent choose their own level of challenge. This is what makes TREC a very accessible activity/sport for everyone.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

In the past year there have been 6 training events organised. These are usually very small and friendly groups of a similar level or experience. At an introductory level, either ridden or in hand, attendees learn about what is to be expected of the sport and how it is judged and marked. Anyone interested, but not able to bring an equine for some reason, is encouraged to attend as a spectator or helper. Training is offered at a higher level too, both ridden and non-ridden, allowing individuals to improve and achieve at their own pace. Annually a training is organised with a mini competition at the end of the session in September, this affords participants a very easy and relaxed introduction into the sport and helps put the training and guidance on rules and time restrictions into context. Winter season Obstacle training was held in October and November and much interest was expressed by members in further dates that arrangements have been made to include PTV training sessions for January and February next year. A fun day with training and Games was a fun end to the winter season

Orienteering training was organised in the spring, to introduce newcomers into the sport to the joys of map reading and acted as a welcome refresher for more experienced riders. This was unmounted and open for anyone to attend, facilitating learning the finer details of map reading and orienteering without having to concentrate on their equine at the same time. A further PTV session was organised away from our base and Kenwick in May to include terrain type obstacles ready for summer outdoor competitions.

Competitive Events

In the Summer 2022, a two-day event was organised at Well Vale. The competition had 6 Classes which were qualifiers for the Trec GB national championships and included 3 different Levels, each level to be ridden as an individual or a pair. Length of routes ranges from 5km up to a 20km route at Level 2. The weekend also included a one-day starter class that encouraged riders who enjoyed Winter TREC, but who lacked the confidence to enter a competition with the map reading element. It was a much more informal competition than the qualification classes, allowing riders a taste of the full

competition without hours in the saddle and the stress of a weekend away. The whole event was successful and very well received by competitors who travelled from around the country to attend as well as attracting many new and local competitors.

Four Arena competitions were held over the winter2022/23 at Lincolnshire Rural Activities Centre (LRAC); a Registered Charity itself, have been very well attended with many new participants to the sport. Each Winter competition has 10 classes, ranging in level, from Starter level - with help allowed – to open and included several classes that could be completed entirely in hand for the non ridden equine. On each occasion classes affiliated to Trec GB were held alongside unaffiliated ones and each riders scores went forward to the Trec Lincolnshire winter league competition. Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)

Youmay chooseto include
further statements, where
relevant, about:

policy on grantmaking;

policy programme related
investment;

contribution made by
volunteers.
The charity is dependant on, and thoroughly
appreciative of, all the volunteers who help
throughout the year. Without the hard work of the
committee there would be no events organised
and volunteers at events, rather than paid
stewards, keep entry fees low to ensure that
everyone that wants to can join in.
