Policy on social investment induding program related investm8nt Parn 1.38 The Club does not undertake soual investment The Club - including its trustees, officers and coaches - is run solely by volunteers. It also depends on volunteers to help in the ffla1ntenan of its facilities and to support members in activits.es such as com etrtions. Contribution made by volunteers Para 1.38 Other Achievements and Performance SORP fefererrA Membershi Both adult and junior membership numbers vary throughout the course of the year but both categories saw a general increase (an average of 47 to 54 adults and 45 to 50 juniors). Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity's work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. Para 1.20 Two adult LTR courses were held- one for general applicants and the other for parents of juniors - with a total of 14 participants. Dedicated sessions aimed at intemiediate rowers are helping to retain LTR participants by bridging the gap to general session rowing. Junior LTR sessions were held with participants from St Edwards and Chumet Middle Schools (Leek). Com etitions The Club entered both Junior and Adult crews at Shrewsbury, Burton, Trentham, Warrington and Northwich. Junior crews were particularly SUCSSfUl at Warrington with three wins and the Adult crews also achieved wins at Shrewsbury. Junior crews also competed in the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta at Northwich and the National championships.
ui ment and Facilities One coxed four/quad was scrapped as rt was deemed to be beyond economic repair as well as one safety launch which was no longer considered suitable. Juniors are coached on Saturday momings throughout most of the school year with additional evening sessions during the lighter summer months. Adults row in organised sessions on Sunday mornings as well as Thursday evenings during the summer months. In addition, competent adults can use Club boats either on their own or as part of a crew at any time. Separate indoor training sessions are held for both Adults and Juniors at a local gym during the winter months. Keele Universi Boat Club KUBC KUBC membership numbers are low for a variety of aSOnS and there has been very little on-water activity. All Aboard Rowin The Club has an agreement with All Aboard Youth Rowing, a tharity (1176153) under which coaches and equipment are provided during term time to children on tha Pupil Premium Register at Macclesfield Academy to enable them leam to row and potentially take part in competstions. The Club is looking to extend partsapation in the scheme to schools in the Leek area. formerl Warrin ton Youth Fundraisin Funds were raised via a 12-hour on water sponsored row and a Christmas raffle. Social In addition to social activities in and around the sponsored rowing events, NSRC also organised an end of season bar-b-q and awards ceremony and Xmas curry. Other Financial Review Review of the charity's financial position at the end of the period Para 1.21 Full details of the accounts are provided in the submitted form CC16a. Note.. The 'Other' category in reiptS and payments primarily covers ra fees which the Club NSRC collects from members and pays to British Rowing for competition entry. This is done for Convenien and financial control but it distorts figures | because it changes based on the number i of competition entries but cannot be used for other purposes. The Club's total bank balances at year end amounted to £18.5k vthich was 7.5¥0 higher than at the start of the reporting period. KUBC subscriptions for the 2023r24 academic year were not received until after the year end. In addition, an exercise to chase unpaid junior subscriptions resulted in a further £1.6k received in October. These sums are not included in the CC16a forn but a more realistic increase in total funds would be approximately £3.7k or 20%. Income (exduding Other) decreased by approximately £7.9k primarily due to significant reductions in fundraising and KUBC subscriptions. It was a conscious decision by the Club to temporarily reduce fundraising activities as it was felt that junior parents needed to see the rewards of their hard work in terms of new equipment. The significant reduction in KUBC activity and therefore coachin fees was ex cted
and was mentioned under Principal Risks in the previous Annual Report. Expenditure (excluding Other) also decreased by £3.1 k mainly due to a reduction in expenditure on new equipment. Although Club finances are healthy in the short tem, approximately £14k per annum needs to be allocated to new equipment in order to maintain the existing fleet. It is not considered realists'c to fund this sum solely through subscriptions so there is a pressing need to secure more income through fundraising, donations and grants. Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held Parn 1.22 The Club aims to build reserves in order to upgrade or purchase new boats or equipment in accordance with an agreed plan. The trustees have decided that a minimum bank balance will be maintained in order to cover fixed outgoings (primarily rent and insurance) in the event of an unforeseen cessab.on or reduction in activity. This minimum level (currently £12k) is specified in the Intemal Financial Controls Procedure and is subject to periodic review. If the bank balance falls below this level, the trustees will take greater control of day-tO- da finan$. The Club has no reserves other than the current account balance. Not applicable Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 Reasons for holding zero reserves Details of fund materially in deficit Explanation of any uncertainties about the charity u)ntinuing as a going concem Para 1.22 Para 1.24 Not applicable Para 1.rJ Not applicable Additional infonnation (optional) You ma choose to include further statements where relevant about: The charity's principal Membership subscriptions supplemented sources of funds (induding with fvndraising efforts, donations and any fundraising) grants.
