Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 The forerunner to CHU (UK), PCM (UK),
had over 13 years established much of
the basic infrastructure for the two
primary schools at Kyehimba and
Kakagate. These included the provision
of classrooms, dormitories, staff
accommodation and a water-harvesting
facility as well as buying land for crop
production and supporting staff
salaries.
CHU (UK) has continued this work over
the past 16 months, continuing to
support staff salaries and funding the
following projects: meeting the
government requirements for the
schools to re-open after the Covid
lockdown, including the provision of 100
desks at Kakagate; bunkbeds for
Kyehimba and the provision of
mattresses and mosquito nets for both
schools; extra funding for food when
there was a shortage and prices
increased; the provision of teaching
equipment and materials; an increase in
staff salaries; safeguarding training in
both schools; completion of 4
classrooms at Kakagate; the provision
of an office and equipment; seed-
funding for projects to encourage
employment amongst disadvantaged
young people; fund-raising for the
further provision of a reliable water
supply for both schools; purchase of
land for future development at
Kyehimba.
All of these projects have improved the
lives and prospects for both the
individual pupils and the communities
associated with the schools.

Achievements against
objectives set

Para 1.41

All of the projects funded this year from
the general funds of the charity have
been directly aligned to the aims and
objectives of the charity.
Although there is much still to be done,
the progress made over the last 16
months has been roughly in line with
the expectations of the trustees and
supporters here in the UK, although
probably fall short of the hopes of our
partners in Uganda.
Performance of fundraising
activities against objectives
set
Para 1.41 The objectives identified by our
Ugandan partners and adopted by us
have been fully funded and realised,
with the exception of the ongoing need
to raise the staff salaries to a level
comparable with state school salaries.
Investment performance
against objectives

Financial Review

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 Receipts: £85,490
Payments: £71,386
Cash Funds: £14,104
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 Our Reserves Policy is available on our
website. For the reasons stated (namely
the lack of any contractual obligations,
needs that always exceed the available
funding, a generous and responsive
support base and the lack of any costs
should the charity close), we hold
approximately one month’s funding for
the work in Uganda in a reserve
account, to minimise the risk of an
interruption to our regular funding.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 £2,000
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22 n/a
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24 n/a
Explanation of any
uncertainties about the
charity continuing as a going
concern
Para 1.23 Not an immediate issue, but the ongoing
health of the current trustees and their
ability to fulfil their duties could become
a concern.

Para 1.47

Donations made by individuals and
organisations/churches.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46 n/a
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 As the majority of donors and also
trustees are in their senior years, a
reduction in the number of those
providing funding and also
administering the charity over time
would become a risk unless new,
younger supporters can be attracted to
become actively involved.
