Objectives: To promote the restoration, preservation, repair, maintenance, improvement and beautification of the church building, including, but not limited to, monuments, fittings, fixtures, stained glass, furniture, ornaments and chattels in the church and churchyard belonging to the church.
The advancement of the education of the public in the heritage and conservation of the church building and its environment.
Summary of Main Activities in 2022:
Fund Raising FSPSP continued to fundraise through involving the local community.
The Easter Market in April was a huge success, attracting record numbers of stalls and visitors, resulting in our highest profit for this event of over £2000. This was due to many volunteers, the generous donation of many items and the use of a classic bus to transport people.
The Family Fun Day held in July at Sayers Croft Activity Centre, a new fundraising venture, was another success. Over 1200 people attended, including many families. They enjoyed the facilities and finding out what the FSPSP and Sayers Croft have to offer. The stall holders also had a good day. The overall profit was almost £6000. Local businesses were very generous with their sponsorship to cover the cost of the Centre instructors and we again had many volunteers and the generous donation of many items for the Raffle.
FSPSP produced four new designs of Christmas cards , based on pictures/photos made by local residents. Card sales raised over £200 and helped us advertise with our logo and website on the back of the cards.
FSPSP have also taken part in and received donations from other village events:
-
A Quiz Night in the Village Hall in February which raised £650 being half of the proceeds.
-
A floral display at the church’s celebration of the Queens Platinum Jubilee.
-
A stall at the Ewhurst Carnival in July, giving information about FSPSP and asking people to guess the weight of a Horsham Roof Slab, which covers part of the church roof.
-
The first Pub Quiz at the newly opened Bulls Head in September. We were able to promote ourselves at the Quiz and over 80 people attended.

- A stall at the Village Christmas Market in December, giving information about FSPSP and selling Christmas cards and logo items
We have recently purchased a large FSPSP horizontal banner plus a gazebo, to aid our advertising when we take part in fundraising and promotion events.
Visits: Schools from London have visited the church while based at the Sayers Croft Activity Centre. The schools have tailormade history sessions to suit their needs.
Visiting local U3A groups and the village school have also had history sessions, aided by our Ewhurst History Society Trustee.
FSPSP has put up special stewarded History displays during Heritage weekends and the Parish Fete. Again, a positive response from all involved.
- Repairs : In February 2022 we reported storm damage to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of Ewhurst with Okewood and Forest Green (EOFG), as they held a maintenance fund from a prior Heritage Lottery Grant. Once the money was forthcoming, FSPSP oversaw the repair work to the correct standards.
Research work has begun on a submission for a Heritage Lottery Grant to help fund the urgently needed repairs to the south transept roof and upper stonework, plus the stonework on the bell tower. As a result, talks are being held with local schools and youth groups as to how they can become involved in planned drama events linked to the history of the church and the village. All responses have been positive.
Contribution made by volunteers
These activities could not have been achieved without our hard-working volunteers, who make it clear that they come because they enjoy meeting people as much as they help support FSPSP. They see the church as the heart of the community and value its history
Achievements and Performance
-
We raised an additional £32,392 for the charity that will be used towards the repairs and maintenance of the church building.
-
We identified repair work that needed doing and worked with the PCC to oversee the work.
-
In addition, we ran events to promote the work of the charity, the history of the church and to explain the restoration work.

NOTES
Average monthly donations £587
The largest part of the one-off donations was a single anonymous donation of £10,000. The next largest was £600 received from the Ellens Green Mission Hall Trust. There was rebate on the VAT for the residual work on the porch in 2021. Gift Aid forms a significant amount of our income.
We have been banking with Cashplus since inception but opened an additional account with Barclays in 2022 as Cashplus cannot accept cheques. The policy is to limit the balance at Cashplus to around £25,000 and transfer the remainder to Barclays.
These funds are being left to accumulate until the next stage of restoration is started, which will be after we receive more grant funding. The next project is to restore the roof of the south transept
