Pollcles and oblectlves The main objective is lo prolecl, display and promote the local Sporting History ol Wimbledon and its immediate neighbours, based primarily in and around AFC Wimbledon's New Plough Lane Football stadium, lor historical and educational purtK)ses. In selling objectives and planning for activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the Charity Commission relating to public benefit, including the guidance 'Public benefit= running a charity IPB21' new format in January 2017 and 'Public benefit reporting, IPB31 b. Volunteers The Charity has a large number of dedicated volunteers all commilled to shaping and sharing Wimbledon's rich sporting history. Revlew of actlvltles These are the first lull year accounts for The Wimbledon in Sporting History CIO IWISHI which is fully established as the CLJslodian ol the artelacls and history ol Wimbledon FC, AFC Wimbledon and the wider sporting history of Wimbledon and environs, as a registered sporting heritage charity in southwest London. WISH has developed from its core of dedicated sporting heritage enthusiasts to a thriving charity of over 40 volunteers committed lo preserving and sharing Wimbledon's rich sporting history without being paid or claiming personal expenses. With the active cooperation and support ol the loolball club and the Board ol The Dons Trust, WISH has expanded the displays ol memorabilia around the stadium, increased the number ol stadiLJm tours and become an established locus lor visits lo Plough Lane on malchdays and al other times. The Trustees note the continued development of "The Greatest Storl, ITGSI museum. In addition. more display cases in the foyer and reception areas ol the stadium attract huge interest from visitors to the stadium and hospitality guests on malchdays alike. The honours boards have been upgraded and refreshed. On the concourse ol the Wesl Stand, the most notable addition has been the return lo Plough Lane ol the Womble 'Til l Die gales, which have been relLJrbished by a dedicated team of volunteers On matchdays and by arrangement, stadium tours are hosted by volunteer guides. Tours now run smoothly and are much appreciated by visitors. Other highlights gleaned from the Annual Report collated by the Head of Volunteering: Dedicated WISH pages in malchday programme, Stadium Tours continuing to develop and receive fantastic reviews, Created legends Tours bringing ex-players back into the Wimbledon fold, WTID gates renovated and on permanent display, Continuing to organise invited guests at PL on match days l events, Wandle had a very busy yearl Wandle attended the Mascot Race on Epsom Racecourse lor the first lime land came 2nd lo laslll An immense amount ol work by WOPA,. supporting many WISH achievements, Renovated reception including 5 new Honours Boards, New displays in the lobby, Created the Greatest Team artwork, displayed on the concourse, Staged a play at the Stadium. The first Heritage weekend at the stadium with guest partners, Created promotional films for WISH, DLAG and the Foundation, in partnership with the Wimbledon Association, Staged a pop-up Dons Den Speedway collection honouring Ronnie Moore which his daughter allended from New Zealand, Launched a fundraiser lor a permanent speedway slalue lo be positioned in front ol the stadium, Took part in outside Community Events Wimbledon and Putney Commons Open Day, Merton Heritage Day. Flnanclal rlsk management The Trustees have assessed the major risks lo which the Charity is exposed. in particular those related lo the operations and finances ol the Charity, and are satisfied that systems and procedures are in place lo mitigate exposure to the major risks. Plans for future perlods Post year end, the mosaic of Mick the Miller has been installed at Plough Lane. The costs were supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Work continues to improve storage facilities. Fundraising is under way to install a tribute to the speedway heritage at Plough Lane. The greyhound memories film has premiered at PIoLJgh Lane. The recognition ol income from legacies is dependent on establishing enlitlemenl, the probability of receipt and the ability to estimate with sullicient ac¢uracy the amount receivable. Evidence of entitlement to a legacy exists whèn the Charity has sullicient evidence that a gift has been left lo them Ilhrough knowledge ol the existence ol a valid will and the death of the benefaclorl and the executor is satisfied that the property in question will not be required to satisfy claims in the estate. Receipt of a legacy musl recognised when it is probable that it will be received and the fair value ol the amount re¢eivable. which will generally be the expected cash amount lo be distributed lo the Charity, ¢an be reliably measured. Grants are inclLJded in the Statement of Financial Activities on a receivable basis. The balance of income received lor specific purposes bul not expended during the period is shown in the relevant funds on the Balance Sheet. Where income is received in advance ol entillemenl ol receipt, ils recognition is deferred and included in creditors as deferred income. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been included under expense categories that aggregate all costs lor allocation lo aclivilies. Expenditure on raising funds includes all expenditure incurred by the Charity lo raise funds for ils charitable purposes and includes costs ol all fundraising activities events and non-charilable trading. Expenditure on charitable activities is incurred on directly undertaking the activities which further the Charity's objectives, as well as any associated support costs. All expenditure is inclusive ol irrecoverable VAT. 2.4 Tangible fixed assets and depreciation Tangible fixed assets costing £100 or more are capilalised and recognised when future economic benefits are probable and the cost or value ol the asset can be measured reliably. Tangible fixed assets are initially recognised al cost. After recognition, under the cost model, tangible fixed assets are measured al cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. All costs incurred lo bring a tangible fixed asset into ils intended working condition should be included in the measurement of cost. The Charity operates a museum and has many artefacls and memorabilia, both purchased and donated, with historical qualities relating lo the sporting history ol Wimbledon. There is an audit trail ol the donated items bul many are unique and markel-based evidence of value does not exist. The Trustees consider that, al this stage, obtaining a reliable cost or valuation lor these donated heritage assets will require additional lime and resources and so they are not recognised on the balance sheet. When resources are available the Trustees plan lo undertake a detailed financial review ol the heritage assets based on the guidance in Charities SORP IFRS1021 Ioct 20191- Depreciation is charged so as to allocate the cost ol tangible fixed assets less their residual value over their estimated useful lives, using the straighl-line method. THE WIMBLEDON IN SPORTING HISTORY TRUST CIO NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2023 Accounting policies (continued) 2.6 Cash at bank and in hand Cash at bank and in hand includes cash and short-lerm highly liquid investments with a short maturity ol three months or less from the dale of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account. 2.7 Liabilities and provisions Liabilities are recognised when there is an obligation at the Balance Sheet dale as a result ol a past event, il is probable that a Iransler ol economic benefit will be required in settlement, and the amount ol the selllemenl can be eslimaled reliably. Liabilities are recognised at the amount that the Charity anticipates il wll pay lo settle the debi or the amount il has received as advanced payments for the goods or services il must provide. Provisions are measured at the best estimate ol the amounts required lo settle the obligation. Where the effect ol the lime value ol money is material, the provision is based on the present value ol those amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rale that reflects the risks specific lo the liability. The unwinding ol the discount is recognised in the Sialement ol Financial Activities as a finance cost. 2.8 Financial instruments The Charity only has financial assets and financial liabilities ol a kind that qualify as basic financial instruments. Basic financial instruments are initially recognised at transaction value and subsequently measured al their settlement value with the exception of bank loans which are subsequently measured al amortised cost using the elleclive interest method. 2.9 Fund accounting General funds are unreslricled funds which are available for use at the discretion ol the Trustees in furtherance ol the general objectives of the Charity and which have not been designated lor other purposes. Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific reslriclions imposed by donors or which have been raised by the Charity lor particular purposes. The costs ol raising and administering such funds are charged against the specific fund. The aim and use of each restricted fund is sel out in the notes lo the financial slalements. Page 12
