Under the guidance of Historic England, we
have cleared the Moat island in readiness for
ground surveys. The first phase of aquatic wild
flower species is now being propagated for
future planting.
We continue to engage with many public bodies

Archaeological and Historic Society.
We regularly update the charity's website with
information on how the public can help protect
and improve the environment in their gardens.

Achievements and Performance

SORP reference
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
Para 1.20 We have constructed a wildflower research
reserve at Hunkington Moat and to date
have planted 80 plus wild flower species.
Under the guidance of Historic England, we
have part-dredged the medieval moated site
to both restore the history and environment
in preparation for a programme of aquatic
wild flower species to be introduced in 2024.
In the construction of the wild flower reserve,
we are creating a site of protection cover for
hedgehogs and grass snakes from the
branches that have been collected/removed.
With the aid of MoD sites, we are starting to
collect rare, indigenous solitary bees and
wasps and are now introducing them the
Hunkington Manor Moat. This work is also
being replicated with satellite wild flower
meadows that have now been constructed at
MoD Bicester, RAF Syerston and shortly at
MoD Donnington.
As a result of our bee breeding programme,
we are continuing to embark on a nation-
wide bee release programme using NHS
hospitals as bee dispersal sites.
We continue to work with the volunteers at
RAF Shawbury, planting further new wild
flower species. Through the county
Lieutenancy office, this work is being
followed by His Majesty.
