Trustees’ Annual Report for the period

From 23/08/2021 to 31/12/2022

Charity name: Nurture Nepal

Charity registration number: 1195595

Objectives and Activities

SORP ref.
Summary of the purposes of
the charity as set out in its
governing document
Para 1.17 Nurture Nepal (NN) exists to advance
education for poor, deprived people
anywhere in the world, particularly in Nepal,
to complete higher education by providing
them with financial support and sponsorships
for board and lodging, mentoring, training,
support and access to higher quality
education facilities which they could not
otherwise afford or gain access to.
The relief of financial hardship anywhere in
the world, particularly in Nepal,
by working with local leaders toprovide
items and services to individuals in need,
assisting in the provision of education,
training, healthcare projects and all the
necessary support required to enable
individuals to generate a sustainable income
and be self-sufficient.
Summary of the main
activities in relation to those
purposes for the public
benefit, in particular, the
activities, projects or
services identified in the
accounts.
Para 1.17 and
1.19
In 2022 we provided regular financial support
to a Nepali NGO – Living Water Hostel
(LWH), in Kathmandu, Nepal.
LWH provides accommodation, food and all
that is needed for youth, aged 16-24, to stay
there in order to pursue their chosen further
education.
Trustees kept in regular contact with the key
workers running LWH.
Supporting website promotion of the
charitable work by funding a NN website
domain and the site itself.
NN is not yet supporting the relief of need
purpose or starting any community
development projects, other than support to
LWH as outlined above.
Statement confirming
whether the trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit
Para 1.18 From our charity’s inception the trustees we
have adhered to the guidance on public
benefit issued by the Charity Commission.

Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole.
SORP reference
Para 1.20
Over the whole year – 2022 – NN has
fulfilled its commitment to send regular
sums of money contributing to LWH’s
delivery of its services to the beneficiaries.
The hostel started the year with:
6 males (av. age of 18.33) and
19 females (av. age of 17.81).
During 2022:
Seven students left (Two M. Five F)
23 students came to LWH (Five M. 18 F)
Of those who left four had gained some
qualifications:
Two women achieved A ’level equivalents
and went on to start degrees while working
and living elsewhere (clearly still an
outcome for LWH);
One woman achieved her A ’level
equivalent and started a degree but then
moved out to get married;
One woman gained her Bachelor’s degree
and has started working.
A relevant outcome for the students, who
work very hard, is that they have had some
recreational down time with NN’s funds
helping enable six such trips (some away
from the city) to events/places such as a
Flower festival, Botanical Gardens and a
visit to the cinema.
Summary of the main
achievements of the charity,
identifying the difference the
charity’s work has made to
the circumstances of its
beneficiaries and any wider
benefits to society as a
whole – continued.
As well as the A ‘level equivalents and
Bachelor’s degrees outlined above, two
students passed their motorbike tests.
Conditions and provision at LWH have
been improved in that an adjacent property
was acquired (for rent) providing
accommodation for a further eight females.
Two of the ‘girl’s’ rooms have been
converted into nice common rooms with a
seating area and hot /cold water
dispensers.
A wall between the dining room and the
communal room has been knocked down
creating a bigger space for eating together
and socialising.
NB. As 23 new students arrived at LWH in
2022, qualification outcomes for them
cannot be expected until at least two years
have elapsed from their arrival.

Financial Review

Review of the charity’s
financial position at the end
of the period
Para 1.21 The fund balance of around £4K in the
bank at the end of 2022 was reasonable.
However, if income had remained at the
level that was current at the start of 2022,
NN would have reached the reserve
amount (see next paragraph) of £1.5K by
the end of 2023.
Thankfully the balance is currently
significantly higher than this as we have
taken action to increase our income,
resulting in more funds than would have
been the case. Trustees are continuing to
pursue a number of avenues for increasing
the charity’s income.
Statement explaining the
policy for holding reserves
stating why they are held
Para 1.22 From the start trustees have agreed that
three months’ worth of regular outgoings
should be held in reserve to give any
NGO/s, that we are supporting, time to
access alternative funding should Nurture
Nepal need to cease operations.
Amount of reserves held Para 1.22 This is currently held at £1500 as monthly
outgoings are £500/m
Reasons for holding zero
reserves
Para 1.22
Details of fund materially in
deficit
Para 1.24

charity continuing as a going

Additional information (optional)

You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:

The charity’s principal
sources of funds (including
any fundraising)
Para 1.47 Apart from £5 received from Amazon’s
charitable scheme (since disbanded) and a
donation from one church, NN’s only
source of funding in 2022 were personal
donations from private individuals.
We are currently working on a more
sustainable fundraising plan.
Investment policy and
objectives including any
social investment policy
adopted
Para 1.46
A description of the principal
risks facing the charity
Para 1.46 Shortage of money being donated for the
charitable. “Cost of living crisis” may impact
this.
Potentially limited trustee capacity – in
terms of: time for the work involved in
running the charity, including fundraising;
health issues and the loss of trustees
retiring at the end of trusteeship tenures.

Structure, Governance and Management

Description of charity’s
trusts:
Type of governing document
(trust deed, royal charter)
Para 1.25 Nurture Nepal’s governing document is

Para 1.25 Charitable Incorporated Organisation
Trustee selection methods
including details of any
constitutional provisions e.g.

any person or body entitled
to appoint one or more

media sites–FB, Instagram, YouTube and
trustees. website URL; duties of a trustee document.

Additional information (optional)
You may choose to include further statements where relevant about:
Policies and procedures
adopted for the induction
and training of trustees
Para 1.51 These are yet to be formalised.
With the recruitment of the latest trustee a
probationary period of 3 months (during
which the prospective trustee attended
meetings and was included in all
discussions / messages) was agreed on
before the candidate was officially
appointed.
The charity’s organisational
structure and any wider
network with which the
charity works
Para 1.51 The charity is managed by the board of
trustees which, for the first 5 months
comprised three trustees (the minimum
requirement) and soon became a board of
five trustees near the start of 2022.
There is a Management Team –
incorporating leaders / key personnel
directly responsible for any NGO/s that NN
is in partnership with.
Meetings took place in 2022 when the need
arose. However, most communication
takes place 1:1 between trustees and NGO
key workers when necessary with both
parties providing feedback as required.
Relationship with any
related parties
Para 1.51 None at present
