About Life4Widows International

Life4Widows International (known as “Life4Widows”) is a support group which focuses on enabling widows to LIVE after the loss of their loved one. No one plans to be a widow, however many of us have found ourselves in the unfamiliar place called “widowhood.” having to deal with many unexpected life issues alone and Life4Widows’ role is to support widows or anyone who has ever been a widow in the best way possible.

Our Mission Statement

We are a charitable organisation comprised of widows and former widows of all ages. We see ourselves as a family of women empowering one another in various innovative ways to springboard our lives back into action after losing a spouse.

Who We Are & What We Do

We are a UK registered charity comprised of widows aged between 30 – 80 Plus. We are a family of women empowering one another in various innovative ways to springboard our lives back into action after losing a spouse.

We are determined that together we would love, encourage, support, and anchor one another and equip ourselves to recover from the loss we have experienced.

We are a breath of fresh air and a ‘Big’ surprise to all women who attend our meetings for the first time mainly because we provide a safe environment where women can (laugh, cry and speak freely) inhale and exhale without fear of being censored, judged, or criticised.

Our Philosophy

Our Christian faith is at the heart of who we are. At Life4Widows, we uplift, encourage, and support one another. However, Life4Widows is no ordinary Widows Support Group. Our approach to widowhood is unique. It’s creative, dynamic, and full of ideas that fulfil and exceed the typical expectations of what a widow’s group should be.

Our Promise

We are committed that ours would be a different kind of friendship. One that we would always be there for each other, ‘no matter what’ and that we would go the extra mile because ‘every widow matters.

With this positive mind set and attitude, our quarterly gatherings and annual events are now attended by women from all sorts of backgrounds. We create a safe, supportive environment where they can grieve, share their everyday difficulties of living without a spouse, bringing up children alone, emotional issues and many other related challenges.

Chair’s Report

Over the last year we have continued to focus on looking out for each other but increased our focus on the younger widows and widows in need. It is always privilege to be able to walk alongside women who have become widows in the last couple of years. Each person has their own unique experience and needs their own individual support. The group is now blessed with women who have matured in widowhood and who are able

to walk alongside the younger widow.

I also am happy to advise of a new initiative that we are starting which is around the children (18 +) of widows. Our aim is to engage with the young adults of members and non-members to create a network where they can go to o share their experiences and encourage themselves. This group will be led by two children of the members of the group, and they will be supported by a younger widow from Life4Widows and the executive group.

Overall, it has been a busy year where we have had an awesome fundraising event with a theme around the wellbeing of widows, two Let’s talk sessions where we there has been awesome discussions about widowhood, general wellbeing & life. Our awesome breakfast meetings must not go a miss which continue to allow members to get to know themselves better and share their experiences of widowhood.

Fundraising Gala event

First, I thank everyone for coming and supporting the work of the organisation. This year’s Fundraising Gala was a huge success. Each year, it just gets bigger and better and I truly appreciate you all - the guest speaker, the delegates and the venue was just right!

We welcomed our key note speaker, Dr Shade Olajubu who gave a thorough overview on counselling and challenged the attendees about their own personal life experiences.

Bereavement—whether sudden or expected, when it comes, ( because we never quite know how we are going to cope, how we will be in the moment) how are we going to navigate the hours and weeks let alone months and years ahead.

Those immortal words coming from someone with all the best intention in the world that says “things will get better”, seem to fall on deaf ears. Our reaction to the death of our husband will be different for each one of us, and it often will depend on who we are as a person. For some (not everyone) but for some, the death of a husband could leave one asking all sorts of questions.

4

I do believe whatever type of widow you are or whatever the circumstance our speaker was able to touch on something that may be or have left us bewildered .

The Gala Event proved a winning combination for some who walked away with not only having a good night but also doing well on the prize draw.

We’re here to support

We really do support and help a widow to stand again through our

support group. Being there on the end of the phone to listen to someone who is not coping and just wants to talk, knowing they're not going to be judged, Or receiving a visit in

hospital , or even providing practical help has proved invaluable.

9

4

Getting together for a morning coffee or maybe lunch,, stretched over into early evening dinner is sometimes just what is called for.

Its just great to get away sometimes,,

10

4

There are occasions when all that is needed, is having someone to talk to.

No expensive gifts, no organised social where you have to look the part but just having a conversation often about nothing and yet everything.

11

4

Supporting each other to help others has become a fundamental aspect of the work of L4W.

There is even time to share in a 60[th] birthday celebration,

The membership is quite varied with people of all ages. But we all share the one thing the loss ( death ) of our husband,

It is a fact that many widows that join the group do not expect to find love again but we are happy to say that many of our widows have. This truly embraces the name of our charity which is Life4Widows, there is indeed Life for widows after death.

The good thing about our charity is that it is a support group and once a widow remarries they can choose to sow back into the group with their experiences of finding love again and experience of marriage.

Finding Love On My Journey
