Objectives and Activities
Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in it’s governing document;
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO, TO BE CARRIED OUT IN LONDON AND SUCH OTHER PARTS OF THE UK AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE, ARE: 1) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THOSE FROM SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS, IN THE SUBJECTS OF LITERACY, CREATIVE WRITING AND THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA THROUGH THE PROVISION OF ONE TO ONE TUITION, GROUP SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS, STORYTELLING AND CREATIVE ARTS PERFORMANCES. 2) THE PROMOTION OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY: (A) ADVANCING EDUCATION AND RAISING AWARENESS IN EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY THROUGH EXPLORATION OF THE HISTORY, CULTURE AND LITERATURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA (B) PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE RACIAL BACKGROUNDS;
(C) CULTIVATING A SENTIMENT IN FAVOUR OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY.

Towards Transformational Tour
Our projects, Anti-Racist Superhero, Literary Leaders and Anti racism training for staff who work with young people and performances of our The Sun Shines For Everyone play will involve us working closely with young people in a variety of age groups. The projects will provide a safe space for them to grow and learn whilst making new friends from the same London borough. Promoting and opening conversations surrounding race will give young people the confidence to express their views and struggles, whilst also influencing those around them. This year we scaled our schools show to fit into Theatre venues.
Our Anti-Racism & Creative Delivery training for adults working with youth groups and in schools will provide educators with the tools needed to address anti-racism in their practices which will potentially help to make a lasting impact on the future generations.
By working across generations, we aim to combat racism from multiple fronts to ensure that anti-racism has a lasting impact in the lives of these children and their social circles. Our outcomes improved social interactions involving the children reached by this project and their social circles, reduced anxiety and depressive symptoms and behaviours as a result of racism and discrimination, and increased spirit of community and interaction between the community and the educators (teachers and youth workers) in our borough of impact.
We reached 928 public beneficiaries this year.

London Boroughs we Worked in: Hammersmith and Fulham, Southwark, Hackney, Lameth, Croydon, Barnet.

The dedication and commitment of staff and volunteers has not only enriched the programs but also fostered a spirit of collaboration and innovation. As a result, the charity has been able to expand its reach, offering more diverse and inclusive activities that cater to a broader audience. Throughout the planning phase, the trustees have been kept in communications of developments and have evaluated feedback received from participants in courses and workshops. Looking ahead, the charity is excited to explore new initiatives and partnerships that will further its mission and continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves.

BBMUK held their first live industry event after forming during covid.

- BBMUK continued to develop relationships within Barnet displaying a sustainable practice to make ongoing difference in geographic area.

BBMUK had their first booking for an antiracism workshop, which was not funded by a grant showing steps towards finding ways to increase revenue via other avenues.

150 young people to part in our creative literary arts based workshops.

60 teachers and teaching assistants participated in anti racism training.

- BBMUK have secured nearly half of the funds required for their Towards Transformational Tour in Summer 2023.
