Objectives and Activities
Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in it’s governing document;
THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO, TO BE CARRIED OUT IN LONDON AND SUCH OTHER PARTS OF THE UK AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE, ARE: 1) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THOSE FROM SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS, IN THE SUBJECTS OF LITERACY, CREATIVE WRITING AND THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA THROUGH THE PROVISION OF ONE TO ONE TUITION, GROUP SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS, STORYTELLING AND CREATIVE ARTS PERFORMANCES. 2) THE PROMOTION OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY: (A) ADVANCING EDUCATION AND RAISING AWARENESS IN EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY THROUGH EXPLORATION OF THE HISTORY, CULTURE AND LITERATURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA (B) PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE RACIAL BACKGROUNDS; (C) CULTIVATING A SENTIMENT IN FAVOUR OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY.

Arts Depot - Book Buzz
Annually, the arts depot organizes Book Buzz, a community book event tailored for family engagement. Our organization takes an active role in coordinating a multitude of activities during the event. In anticipation of our upcoming production, "The Sunshines for Everyone," scheduled to tour the borough next year subsequent to our residency, we are preparing a varied array of interactive experiences. These will encompass group activities, arts and crafts workshops, and storytelling sessions.
Barnet BHM
Creative Storytelling Workshop
Our creative storytelling workshop is a cross disciplinary workshop which allows young people to dive into their creativity to improve wellbeing. In this exciting three hour workshop children aged 8 - 11 will explore the beautiful writing and imagery from the book ‘Sade and her Shadow Beasts’, by British-Nigerian author Rachel Faturoti. Children will create their own magical world just like Sade and co-create their own story. Activities will include arts and crafts, group storytelling, games and creative writing/spoken word.
Black Books Matter UK - Industry Q&A
Taking place in artdepots studio theatre, this event will bring audiences together with a panel of exciting Black British authors/illustrators/publishers. Creating space to learn more about the publishing world from the perspective of the global majority. The Q&A will be followed by a spoken word open mic event celebrating local young and emerging poets.
Aims
Introduce young people to black british authors, enhancing being exposed to diverse texts that reflect our community.Educate young people on the range of pathways within the publishing worlD. Improved wellbeing through creativity. Creating space to hear about the narrative of the global majority in the publishing world and share industry. Educate the community on pathways in the literary industry. Create space for global majority artists to be seen and heard.
Anti Racist Superhero & Literary leader Workshops
Our Anti Racist Superhero workshops are a creative and interactive way to develop young people's understanding of allyship and the introductory terminology around racism. Focusing on allyship to allow a deeper understanding and acceptance of all around us. The workshop is filled with storytelling, creativity and of course our favorite book detective exercise, allowing young people to actively explore doing their own research and learning. Through exploring what racism is and what it means to be anti racist young people take part in a range of creative learning, developing a range of skills and of course team work.
Our Literary Leaders programme blends the traditional book club environment to allow young people to explore stories that explore black history and culture, alongside the work of BIPOC exploring stories of all kinds. Through exploring various kinds of literature from fiction, non fiction, blogs, articles and more our Literary Leaders learn the tools for the five types of writing expository, descriptive, narrative persuasive and creative to ensure that all stories are head and express what they feel needs to be shared with their local and wider community.

Our anti-racism workshops targeting community organizations and schools commence with an introductory call, fostering engagement with your organization's leader or designated Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) representative. This preliminary conversation serves to tailor the workshop to align with your institution's existing stance on inclusivity and allyship. The workshops delve into crucial subjects including Protected Characteristics and Unconscious Bias, offering tangible tools and frameworks to evaluate developmental areas within your organization. Furthermore, they provide guidance on transitioning towards transformative strategies to advance racial equality and inclusivity within your organizational framework.

- Community Barnet - final invoice from previous financial year activity. (£375) 2. The National lottery Fund (£10,000) and HUC (£4,700) - Funding towards activity to start in the next financial year. ‘Towards Transformational Tour is taking our antiracist superheroes, literary leaders and antiracism training around london. Development of our show the Sun Shines for Everyone, to be able to be toured in theaters alongside schools.

The charity has effectively realized its objectives, resulting in noteworthy documented successes through the support of trustees at regular meetings. Throughout the planning phase, the trustees have been kept in communications of developments and have evaluated feedback received from participants in courses and workshops.

BBMUK held their first live industry event after forming during covid.

- BBMUK continued to develop relationships within Barnet displaying a sustainable practice to make ongoing difference in geographic area.

- BBMUK had their first booking for an antiracism workshop, which was not
funded by a grant showing steps towards finding ways to increase revenue via other avenues.

150 young people to part in our creative literary arts based workshops.

60 teachers and teaching assistants participated in anti racism training.

BBMUK have secured nearly half of the funds required for their Towards Transformational Tour in Summer 2023.
