Objectives and Activities

Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in it’s governing document;

THE OBJECTS OF THE CIO, TO BE CARRIED OUT IN LONDON AND SUCH OTHER PARTS OF THE UK AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE, ARE: 1) THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY THOSE FROM SOCIALLY AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS, IN THE SUBJECTS OF LITERACY, CREATIVE WRITING AND THE HISTORY AND CULTURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA THROUGH THE PROVISION OF ONE TO ONE TUITION, GROUP SESSIONS, WORKSHOPS, STORYTELLING AND CREATIVE ARTS PERFORMANCES. 2) THE PROMOTION OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT BY: (A) ADVANCING EDUCATION AND RAISING AWARENESS IN EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY THROUGH EXPLORATION OF THE HISTORY, CULTURE AND LITERATURE OF THE AFRICAN DIASPORA (B) PROMOTING ACTIVITIES TO FOSTER UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN PEOPLE FROM DIVERSE RACIAL BACKGROUNDS; (C) CULTIVATING A SENTIMENT IN FAVOUR OF EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY.

Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts;

  1. ANTI RACIST SUPERHERO WORKSHOPS (Ages 7-11) Funded by: Crate Places UK, The London Borough of Hackney, Our Anti Racist Superhero workshops are a creative and interactive way to develop young people's understanding of allyship and the introductory terminology around racism. Focusing on allyship to allow a deeper understanding and acceptance of all around us. The workshop is filled with storytelling, creativity and of course our favorite book detective exercise, allowing young people to actively explore doing their own research and learning. Through exploring what racism is and what it means to be anti racist young people take part in a range of creative learning, developing a range of skills and of course team work. 2. LITERARY LEADERS WORKSHOPS (Ages 12-18) Funded by: The Phoenix Fund, Mbilla Arts CIC, The london Borough of Hackney, Community Barnet Our Literary Leaders programme blends the traditional book club environment to allow young people to explore stories that explore black history and culture, alongside the work of BIPOC exploring stories of all kinds. Through exploring various kinds of literature from fiction, non fiction, blogs, articles and more our Literary Leaders learn the tools for the five types of writing expository, descriptive, narrative persuasive and creative to ensure that all stories are head and express what they feel needs to be shared with their local and wider community. 3. ANTI RACISM WORKSHOPS(Organisations, Staff, Teachers) The Phoenix Fund, Mbilla Arts CIC, The london Borough of Hackney, Community Barnet Our anti racism workshops for community organisations and schools all start with an initial call to talk with your organisation lead or designated EDI lead to help tailor the workshop to where your school is at on it’s journey in inclusivity and allyship. Our workshops look at; The Protected Characteristics, Unconscious Bias and practical tools and frameworks that allow you to look at where growth is needed within your organisation and where to develop in becoming transformational when it comes to race equality and inclusivity in your organisation. 4. THE SUN SHINES FOR EVERYONE PLAY Funded by: The Phoenix Fund, The London Borough of Hackney A musical play with puppetry. Through the positive emotion of joy, The Sun Shines For Everyone encourages children to have pride in their own heritage and history, as well as celebrate, recognise, appreciate and understand different cultures, and empower them to make change. Undertook 2 weeks of rehearsals at a residency at Artsdepot and then a four week tour around schools and community groups for free.

I confirm the trustees have been informed of all the charities achievements, The charity has exceeded the trustees expectations and has achieved all it set out to do with amazing documented results, the trustees have been kept up to date throughout the planning and have seen all the feedback from the attendees of the courses and workshops. All the trustees have had the opportunity to attend trustee workshops.
