Provide a structure and framework to work with community based allotments & groups looking for help & guidance, to develop their project for the benefit of the local area. In developing these projects we promote the advancement of community education & the relief of poverty empowering residents to grow, cultivate & distribute locally grown produce.

Growing Mansfieldprovide a structure and framework to work with community based allotments & groups looking for help & guidance, to develop their project for the benefit of the local area. In developing these projects we promote the advancement of community education & the relief of poverty, empowering residents to grow, cultivate & distribute locally grown produce. Growing Mansfield continues to work across local community allotments with groups of vulnerable people, including parents and children engaging them both as volunteers, and beneficiaries. Growing Mansfield has run several schemes to enable local residents to obtain and use fresh produce grown on these allotments. These include crop drops, taking produce directly to where is needed, such as food banks at local schools. The project has engaged with groups from all sectors of the community, from small children through to teenagers and young people attending a college course. Our project continues to work with young adults who are struggling with addiction and homelessness, and older people who may be isolated and in need of support. Growing Mansfield is also continuing to support a number of volunteers to gain skills and confidence, and to engage with other local horticulture projects, thus furthering their personal development and learning.

Amanda Fisher with the help from John, and an ever increasing team of willing volunteers, run this community project (Northfield Allotment) with incredible hard work and dedication. Northfield Avenue and its volunteers has continued to build on it’s success and provides the local community with a focal point and safe haven A Northfield participant testimonial………

“Before lockdown, I was part of a walking group and walked 5 days a week. Then, I joined the allotment because we could work outside and could be 2 ft apart. I never re joined (the walking group) as I can be outside most of the day and still get my steps in. We have a good laugh, and I get to meet new people.”

Summary of the main Northfield Avenue Community Allotments have started to work with a achievements of the charity local child minding service who attend the project twice weekly. during the year Attendees, with support from our project lead have developed and grown their own vegetables on site and taken produce away to cook and eat. Northfield Avenue have had 1587 visits up on last year by 247. they now average between 15 to 20 people per session which is nearly double last year. Local residents who come to site give a small donation for vegetable plants to grow produce at home. Two of our volunteers have now been able to gain employment after overcoming low confidence and anxiety, which we believe is a direct result of working with our team. Two more of our volunteers have their own allotment plots using the skills they have developed under the guidance of our project leaders. Northfield Avenue have run a pumpkin competition where children from the community have sown pumpkin seeds that have then been grown on site, once ready for picking they have taken them home and carved them and then brought them back to site. 15 crop drops to Northfield Primary School – delivering boxes of fresh produce seasonally Northfield continue to offer open access to free produce collection where residents collect fresh produce and we continue to encourage local residents to take part in site walks – which has enhanced their health and wellbeing Northfield Avenue community allotment in cooperation with Mansfield District Council, has now been extended to include 50% more land Links with……… “The Explorers” a local childminding service Framework Green Social Prescribers Feel Good Gardens Yeoman Park School Tum Tum Housing – supported housing organisation Action Housing – working with ex drug users and offenders Northfield Primary School Crescent Primary School Mansfield District Council Notts County Council Notts Community Garden Network Northfield Ave Allotments Association Barnsley College Just Fencing – donations of free wood chip

Growing Mansfield are a new charity and do not currently have a policy on reserves. However, the Trustees appreciate that this needs to be addressed. In our second year a policy will be put in place to cover contingencies and risks.

For the public benefit - the development of community allotments and local food growing, for the advancement of community education, citizenship and community development, Growing Mansfield will also work for the relief of poverty and the assistance of people in need, in the Mansfield district by empowering residents to grow food, and to distribute locally grown produce to people in need.
