Chair of Trustees’ Report
Welcome from the Chair of Trustees - Sharon Golightly Welcome to our Annual Report for the year ending December 2022.
I’d like to start by saying thank you! 2022 was another year of incredible giving, both in terms of food and financial donations as well as volunteers time to make our charity’s activities happen. We have been blessed to receive regular and one-off donations of food for our food parcels as well as many financial donations that enable us to purchase items needed. It has been humbling to see just how many people have shown practical love and care to their fellow residents of Crawley.
Thanks are also due to our fabulous team of volunteers who have worked tirelessly coping with the increasing needs of clients. With only 1 part time staff member, we literally rely on our volunteers’ time, commitment and goodwill. After over 30 years of service we were thrilled to be nominated and win the Support Group of the year 2022 at the Crawley Community Awards which is testament to the efforts of the whole team.
It has been a blessing to see our significant partnerships grow – with Crawley Open House as part of the Crawley Foodbank Partnership, with Christians Against Poverty (CAP) and with Love Your Neighbour as our partner at the Hub.
We must recognise the generosity of particular supporters – Christina Kerr for hosting our warehouse space and County Mall for hosting the Hub. Without these, we would have nowhere to store our food and nowhere to give it out from!
As trustees, we remain committed to doing all we can to support people in Crawley in food and fuel poverty, following Jesus’ words “whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it for me.” Matthew 25 v40

And so the story continues….
The New Year of 2022 started with us moving properly into the Hub in Crawley Town centre and clients starting to come and collect their food parcels there. It is located discreetly, is easily accessible both by car and on foot and is very close to the bus station. It couldn’t be more central! After 21 months of volunteers
doing home deliveries, it is a blessing to have a base for clients to collect from. Clients can be met face to face and as well as receiving their standard food parcel have the option to choose their own extras from whatever was available from our tables set up as market stalls. As clients bring their own bags to take their items away, it offers clients a dignified way to come and received their goods.
As the numbers of new clients approaching us for support and the numbers of parcels given out was ever increasing, having a base became more and more of a blessing.
Working in partnership with Love Your Neighbour and Christians against Poverty at the Hub has resulted in more wrap around support for clients - so much more than just the food parcel or utility top up. Clients have taken up the invitation to come inside, have coffee and chat at the same time as getting their food parcels or waiting for their top ups. This has enabled them to be signposted to other relevant services.
Our volunteer teams have worked so hard both at the warehouse and at the hub as well as collecting donations, delivering parcels, bringing items from the warehouse to the hub and so much more. My thanks go to each and every one of them for serving in this way – you all deserve an award!
We have been blessed to have been supported by an incredible number of donors (schools, churches, businesses and individuals) including some who prefer to remain anonymous, or whose names I don’t know. I’d like each of you to know that your donation has been significant and gratefully received and it has enabled us to keep on feeding those who need it.

Trustees’ Annual Report for the year from 1 January to 31 December 2022
Objectives and Activities
The purpose of the Easter Team is the relief of poverty, hardship and distress through the provision of food and other assistance to families and individuals in crisis in the Crawley area.
The main activities of the Easter Team are:

The provision and distribution of food parcels, and

The provision of top ups for gas and electricity pre-payment meters.
The Easter Team could not operate without the large number of kind individuals, churches, schools and other organisations who generously give large amounts of food, many hours of their time, money and other valuable resources.
The Easter Team is extremely grateful to Sayers Publishing Group Ltd for allowing part of their premises to be used on very favourable terms as a food store.
The Easter Team is extremely grateful to Love Your Neighbour for their wide ranging support including giving money and partnering with us at our food distribution Hub in Crawley town centre on very favourable terms.
The trustees of the Easter Team follow the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Achievements and Performance
The Easter Team helps a large number of families and individuals in the Crawley area get through periods of crisis.
We provide and distribute food parcels to people in crisis. During 2022 a total of 4947 food parcels were given away (up from 4658 in the previous year). The vast majority of these were distributed from the town centre Hub which came into operation at the beginning of the year.
The Easter Team buys much appreciated gas and electricity pre-payment meter top ups to help people in crisis with their heating costs. During 2022 we helped clients in this way on 1223 occasions (up from 1103 in the previous year). The top ups were mostly at £20 each. Starting in December they were increased to

£30 each to give more help with rising heating costs. Over the year we bought 62% of the top ups online or on the phone and the rest were bought by volunteers taking the clients’ top up cards into a shop.

Through personal contact (at the Hub and on the phone) the Easter Team’s volunteers encourage and help many people in crisis.
Many of the families and individuals helped would otherwise not have sufficient food, would not be able to heat their homes properly and would find the crises they face even more difficult to cope with.
Structure, Governance and Management
The Easter Team is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The constitution is dated 7 April 2021. The trustees are appointed or re-elected for terms of 3 or 4 years by the trustees.
During 2022 the Easter Team continued to work closely with Love Your Neighbour, Crawley Open House and Crawley Christians Against Poverty in those areas where the organisations’ interests overlap.
The Easter Team employs a part time Operations Manager (Su Parrish) to manage the food store and town centre Hub, to liaise with donors of food, to co-ordinate volunteers, to manage the distribution of food parcels and the purchase of meter top ups, and to carry out other functions. The Easter Team did not have any other employees during 2022.

None of the Easter Team’s trustees or volunteers receives any remuneration or other benefit.
Financial Review
During 2022 the Easter Team had income of £72,096 (up from £63,973 the previous year). God has been amazing in the way he has blessed us with incoming resources and thereby enabled us to do so much for families and individuals in crisis.
During 2022 the main income was donations of £41,745 (mostly from individuals and churches), gift aid of £3,888 and grants of £25,462.

Our sincere thanks to all the individuals and organisations who supported us financially during 2022.
During 2022 the Easter Team spent £65,145 (up from £50,349 the previous year).
The spending consisted of £25,845 on gas and electricity meter top ups, £15,381 on food for clients (to supplement the food donated by supporters), £16,249 on the employment of an Operations Manager and £7,670 on other running costs.
During 2022 the increase in the Easter Team’s spending was partially offset by an amazing increase in income. At the end of 2022 the Easter Team held a total of £81,077, which included £15,171 in a restricted fund.

Notes on Accounts
The Easter Team has changed from being an unincorporated association (charity number 1013310) to being a charitable incorporated organisation (charity number 1194018). The new charity was registered in April 2021 and the old charity was closed in October 2022. During the transition period all the assets of the old charity were transferred to the new charity.
The above financial review and summary of accounts are a combined summary for the old charity and new charity. The figures for the two charities are as follows:
