Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
Our first year as a CIO was very active, commencing by taking the time to setup all the necessary fundamentals to run the charity, as well as being recognised by Lambeth Council as the official LGBTQIA+ forum for the people that live, work, study and socialise in Lambeth.
During this period we had the opportunity to host two instances of LGBTQ+ History Month events (2021 and 2022) with over 500 attendees in total; engage with dozens of service providers and other LGBTQIA+ organisations; launch a podcast with prominent members of the community; promote a number of surveys and consultations impacting our community; helping Norwood School draft their inclusivity policies and application for the Stonewall Champion Award, and providing them with ‘pronoun’ lanyards to increase visibility; working with other key organisations looking at older members of the community on the review of the policies of ‘Pride in Care’ and to introduce these best practices to care homes in Lambeth in order to make them more inclusive and avoid trans & homophobic incidents. Lastly, former Cllr Lucy Caldicott - our former representative from Lambeth Council - placed a full motion to council to assert Lambeth’s commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing needs of trans and non-binary people.
A few more details of our community engagement follow:

Section D Achievements and performance
For 2021, still fronting the challenges of the Covid pandemic we hosted our launch as a charity with a series of LGBT History Month events which were attended by close to 200 people. These events focused on:
-
Promoting engagement of the LGBTQIA+ community with the 2021 Census, particularly given the historical importance as it was the first time that sexual orientation was being asked in a national census and this information will help shape policy for a number of years.
-
Health provisioning for the LGBTQIA+ community,
-
Housing needs and requirements for the community; and finally
-
A joint event with the British Army on experiences of our community within the armed forces.
We were able to hold our first in person event in 2021, partnering with Myatt’s Field Park, and run a Pride Picnic for Pride Month. This community event saw a diverse mix of the Community come together, including families, younger and older people. Approximately 60 people attended.
For 2022 we held more in person events and focused on:
-
Celebrating the 30[th] anniversary of the first EuroPride held in Brockwell Park, Lambeth
-
The future of Trans Health;
-
Another Myatt’s Field Park Pride Picnic that, despite the weather, was attended by approximately 80 people.
We have also represented the interests of the Community by engaging with key service providers responsible for our health, wellbeing and safety, such as:
-
The Met Police and being part of the recruitment of their full time LGBT+ Activity & Engagement Coordinator and sitting on the Community Relationship Group
-
Supporting the work of the newly formed NHS South East London Integrated Care System
-
North Lambeth Patients Group
-
The Lambeth Emotional Health and Wellbeing board
-
Lambeth Healthwatch
-
Southeast London Patient Group
-
Pride in Practice
-
Tonic Housing
-
Opening Doors London
-
Age UK
And by attending events and working with other key organisations such as:
-
Working closely with the forums of neighbouring boroughs – primarily: Southwark, Lewisham, and Wandsworth
-
Black Thrive
-
Silver Pride
-
Trans Pride
