The IBO encourages education, the exchange of information, publications and practical opportunities to increase understanding, capabilities, competences and skills in matters related to British pipe organ building. It also promotes the preservation of craftsmanship and traditional techniques to the highest standard, recognised and awarded by the Institute as the central organisation for the UK.

Objects: The Objects Of The CIO Area) To Advance Education In The Practice Of British Pipe Organ Building By Such Means As Education, Exchange Of Information And Publications For The General Benefit Of The Public And By Providing Opportunities For Members Of The Public And Young People To Further Their Understanding Capabilities, Competences And Skills In Matters Related To The Craft;b) To Promote The Preservation Of Craftsmanship And Traditional Techniques Used Within British Pipe Organ Building To The Highest Standard, Recognised And Awarded By The CIO In Order To Be The Central Organisation And Association Within The United Kingdom For Continuance Of The Heritage And Progressive Craft Of British Pipe Organ Building In Places Of Worship, Private Residencies, Schools And Public Buildings; Nothing In This Constitution Shall Authorise An Application Of The Property Of The CIO For The Purposes Which Are Not Charitable In Accordance With Section 7 Of The Charities And Trustee Investment (scotland) Act 2005 And Section 2 Of The Charities Act (northern Ireland) 2008.
